Why does my dog wink one eye when I'm talking to her? Is it normal?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think the right eye looks slightly larger than the left eye because of the pigmentation of the left eye. I do not think there is anything wrong with her eye at least based on these pictures. However, I do think that she is seriously adorable! If she develops any discharge, redness or excessive blinking, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Otherwise, she is likely going to be ok. It looks like the right eye is a little 'wall eyed' but most pets will not have any problems with this condition. While it's not 'normal', it's also not uncommon. To be certain there are not any problems, have your vet check the neurological reflexes in the eyes and the face. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Sometimes there are changes in pigmentation in that region of the eye which are not considered abnormal especially if not bothering the patient. Good luck and have a good night!

However, this is sometimes seen in patients that are overall sick as a sign of illness. Because it is possible that this does not necessarily mean that he is sick, I would continue monitoring him for now. If he develops any other signs of illness such as lethargy, inappetence or vomiting, have him evaluated then. Hopefully, this is nothing serious. Good luck!

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I highly recommend that you have Gizmo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!

Cats often squint their eyes, especially if they are getting sleepy and about to nap. Now if you notice any redness of the white part of her eye, eye discharge (usually yellow green) or puffiness of her eyes, then I would get concerned about conjunctivitis and then eye drops would have to be prescribed by your vet.
