Why are my dog's eyes glossy, droopy, and sometimes closing?

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Considering only the ocular signs, that is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sofie, I am sorry she isn't feeling well! Sadly the symptoms you are describing are non-specific and can indicate many things. Lethargy, not moving and keeping the eyes closed indicates that Sofie is sick. She could be painful or have a fever. Almost anything can cause the symptoms she is exhibiting ranging from Lyme disease, to cancer, to kidney failure, to nausea, etc. I recommend that Sofie be examined by a Vet today. However, there are some other diseases that really need a very thorough evaluation of the eye to diagnose. I think that if he has not improved on the current therapy, it may be a good idea to check in with your veterinarian. If they are concerned based on their knowledge of his case, they could consider having you consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist. The skin over the eye is a third eye lid - it often comes up with eye infection, fever or when generally dogs are unwell. Please, take your dog to your vet and get him examined. He may have eyes or upper airways infection and he will need a course of antibiotics to get better.

Hello and thank you very much for your inquiry. Bailey sure is a handsome fella. I appreciate you sending pictures very much, however I am unable to really get a good look at the eyes. There are so many ocular disease is that German Shepherd‘s can acquire and most of the clinical signs of that disease are things like squinting, tearing, and scratching at the eyes. But there are very few things related to the eye it’s self that makes an animal look sleepy. I am courage you to take him in to the veterinarian as soon as possible so that they can do a thorough ophthalmic examination. The veterinarian may want to do a full physical examination as well to make sure that he doesn’t have anything else going on that would causing him to act sleepy.
