Why does my French Bulldog have wet, crusty ears, scabs, and shakes head?

Hi Chris! I suspect that Harley may have an ear infection. Ear infections in dogs can be caused by yeast, bacteria, or ear mites. I'd take him into a vet today to get this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. I am concerned that he has an ear infection. He needs to see his veterinarian. The ears will be examined including deep inside as the dog's ear drum requires a special instrument in order to be visualized. Then a swab will be taken from each ear to be examined under the microscope. This will allow the veterinarian to determine if an infection is in fact present and if so, what medication will be needed to treat it. I hope this information helps!

It looks like Banjo has a skin infection. These are usually bacterial in nature, but sometimes it can be from a fungus or yeast. Banjo should see a veterinarian for an exam and treatment. Poor Lebron! It's true that skin problems like this can be caused by a number of different things. Usually, some diagnostic testing (such as a skin scrape, cytology, possible bacterial or fungal culture, etc.) is needed to determine what the problem is - so I'm wondering if any tests were done at your vet visit, or if any medications were prescribed to try and treat the problem. If not, I would recommend taking Lebron back for a recheck visit, or seeking a second opinion from another vet. It's likely that he will need prescription medication such as a steroid and/or antibiotic in order to treat the problem, depending on what the testing shows.

If he has bumps anywhere else on his body then you should take him to a vet now. If only the ear flaps are affected then you can give him one 25mg Benadryl (diphenhydramine) tablet every 12 hours for the next 48 hours to see if it helps. If not, take him to your vet. You can also get this product from your local Petco and just put it on the affected area of the ear flaps once a day. Call Petco first as many stores don't keep it in stock, only online. It's probably a severe ear infection, Ear infections are very common in dogs, it is usually caused by either yeast or bacterial disease. the treatment is usually simple and straightforward, you will have to take him to the vet and get the ears checked, then a prescription ear drops will be prescribed according to the infectious agent. it can wait for your vet tomorrow.
