It's probably a severe ear infection, Ear infections are very common in dogs, it is usually caused by either yeast or bacterial disease. the treatment is usually simple and straightforward, you will have to take him to the vet and get the ears checked, then a prescription ear drops will be prescribed according to the infectious agent. it can wait for your vet tomorrow.

These are classic clinical signs of an external ear infection, or otitis externa. I recommend bringing Brigg to your veterinarian at their next available appointment for an exam. Your veterinarian can perform an ear smear of any debris in the ears, and look at this under a microscope. Most ear infections are either bacterial and/or yeast infections, treated with topical medications. I hope this is helpful!

The ears will be examined including deep inside as the dog's ear drum requires a special instrument in order to be visualized. Then a swab will be taken from each ear to be examined under the microscope. If it happened only one time then yes, nothing to worry about. if it happens several times a day Gideon is likely suffering from either an ear infection or a foreign body in the ear. in that case you need to take him to the vet ASAP.

I don't see anything wrong in the pictures, but I would have to examine him in-person to really be able to assess him. Sudden itchiness is usually due to a contact allergy, or possibly due to an environmental allergy. I would check to see if he had contact to any aerosol sprays, disinfectants, perfumes, bathing products, fiberglass, or other new bedding, etc. Without seeing the behavior and knowing the full history, it's difficult to know for sure that this is itching behavior. However, you can give him a bath with just cool water for 15 minutes and see if that helps. If you are not able to determine the cause of this, or the bath is not helping, then I'd recommend a visit to the vet, or possibly an online consult with one of our Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach experts.
