My pug is vomiting and weak after tick treatment. What's wrong?

Poor girl. Certainly tick borne disease can cause vomiting a couple weeks after exposure, but a month seems to be a bit prolonged. Also you would typically see other symptoms too such as limping, low grade fever and a decreased appetite. Other potential causes of vomiting are: stomach upset due to a change in diet, eating something she shouldn’t have, acid reflux disease, or even inflammatory bowel disease just to name a few. if he vomiting continues for more than a day or two, or if she has any more symptoms that you didn’t mention here, then this best to take her in for a complete examination to ensure she is ok. Typically there is a local skin reaction "bulls-eye" reddened area that forms at the site of the bite and this can lead to overall illness, including fever, vomiting, diarrhea. Investigate the site where the tick bit and then I would recommend taking him to your local veterinarian for a full physical examination and proper medication to help stop the allergic reaction he may be having to the tick bite itself. I would also recommend placing a Seresto collar, Adaptil collar, or giving Nexgard tablets (flea and tick preventative) to prevent future tick bites.

Oh my. It sounds like your pet may be suffering from a tick borne septic arthritis or something similar. Ticks can cause all sorts of internal problems for pets, including damaging the joints and causing low grade fevers and nausea. I would highly advise getting your pets seen by your local vet right away for much needed antibiotics and blood testing to confirm that tick borne disease is present. This will help let us know what other treatments they need to hopefully get better. I would take them in as soon as possible and also get them on a high quality flea/tick preventative such as Simparica, Firstshield, Nexgard or Bravecto. Best of luck with your pets. In this product they use Amitraz. I have seen dogs react poorly to this medication. Typically they have vomiting, diarrhea and lethargic behavior. I would recommend taking him to your veterinarian for supportive care. Typically this is not a fatal medication but can make them dehydrated and need medical care! Some dogs just like people are more sensitive to certain medications. I would not recommend using this product again. Hope that helps

He could be having an adverse reaction to the flea/tick medication. Give him a bath immediately! Then contact your local vet to have him examined and treated for an acute allergic reaction. The most important thing though is to wash off the product. Using dawn dish detergent works best to strip the product off. There is a chance that he has absorbed a good bit of the medication already, but this will help prevent further absorption and subsequent illness. Most adverse reactions to flea/tick products do well with time (minimum 12 hrs to see improvement). I hope your puppy Harley recovers soon!

Hello. If this has been ongoing for several hours & she has vomited multiple times, then I would consider having Kreacher seen by your veterinarian tonight or as soon as possible tomorrow. The biggest concern is dehydration, so you can try to give her a couple of teaspoons of water or broth every hour or so. If she feels like drinking, but vomits afterwards, replace her water with ice cubes to lick on. Absolutely no food until tomorrow. Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that Cookis is so sick! The difficulty breathing and vomiting in a young puppy is very concerning to me. You need to take Cookis back to your veterinarian as it sounds like X-rays need to be done. She may have developed pneumonia or have a blockage in her gastrointestinal tract. It is very important to have Cookis seen by a veterinarian as I'm concerned it sounds like she is very ill. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do at home to help at this point without knowing what exactly is causing these issues.
