My dog has a tick bump and is vomiting. Is it tick-borne disease?

Typically there is a local skin reaction "bulls-eye" reddened area that forms at the site of the bite and this can lead to overall illness, including fever, vomiting, diarrhea. Investigate the site where the tick bit and then I would recommend taking him to your local veterinarian for a full physical examination and proper medication to help stop the allergic reaction he may be having to the tick bite itself. I would also recommend placing a Seresto collar, Adaptil collar, or giving Nexgard tablets (flea and tick preventative) to prevent future tick bites.

Oh my. It sounds like your pet may be suffering from a tick borne septic arthritis or something similar. Ticks can cause all sorts of internal problems for pets, including damaging the joints and causing low grade fevers and nausea. I would highly advise getting your pets seen by your local vet right away for much needed antibiotics and blood testing to confirm that tick borne disease is present. This will help let us know what other treatments they need to hopefully get better. I would take them in as soon as possible and also get them on a high quality flea/tick preventative such as Simparica, Firstshield, Nexgard or Bravecto. Best of luck with your pets. Ticks can cause illness, but it is also possible that something else is wrong and the tick has nothing to do with it. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. They may recommend an x-ray and / or blood work to help diagnose the problem. With intact females I am always concerned about a uterine infection called pyometra as well. It can cause lots of vague symptoms. I would recommend taking a fresh poop sample with you when you go to the veterinarian as well. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Typically signs of Lyme disease include a loss of appetite, fever, reduced energy, lameness, stiffness, and swelling of the joints. It's not typically vomiting, but it could be another tick borne disease. I'm concerned about him, and I think it's best he sees a vet now asap. I would take him into one first thing in the morning. That doesn't appear to be a tick. It looks like it could be a tiny mass on or under the skin. Keep an eye on it for any rapid change or growth, redness or discomfort. Continue to offer food in small, frequent amounts. Mix in the pumpkin (NOT pie filling) as you've been doing. As long as he is behaving normally and the stool is firming up, you can monitor him at home. If the diarrhea persists or the bump changes then have him seen by your veterinarian.

If you think Puggy may be having a reaction to the tick treatment, give her another bath washing with a mild detergent type soap such as Dawn dish detergent. This will help remove any residual insecticide from her coat. If she continues to show weakness and vomiting she should be evaluated by a veterinarian.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to our consultation service. although it is possible to get diarrhea from a tick related disease, it is not common at all. it would be more likely that she has either eaten something that is not agreeing with her or she has a disease or condition unrelated to the tick. If she continues to eat and drink normally as well as wants to play, I would wait for 48 to 72 hours with feeding her regular diet. If after the 72 hours, the diarrhea is still present, she needs to be seen by a veterinarian. If at any point, she starts to act lethargic or vomit, etc., I would take her to the veterinarian as soon as possible so that they can do a physical examination and possibly some diagnostic testing.
