Why is my dog vomiting and restless after wearing a citronella collar?

I am sorry to hear that Max is going through this. I don’t know how long ago he ingested the collar but I am concerned. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. X-rays may be recommended to look for an obstruction as well as blood work to evaluate For possible toxicity . It is possible that Xina had a reaction to the flea collar. If you have not already done so, I would remove the flea collar and wash the fur and skin where the collar was. Many pets will have reactions to flea collars, so I recommend another form of flea preventative. She may also react to topical flea preventatives, so, in her case, it may be best to use a prescription oral preventative from your vet.

I'm sorry to hear that Boo hasn't been feeling well! It is possible that the permethrin spray or collars may be related to his vomiting, but other possible causes include a foreign body intestinal obstruction, virus, parasites (particularly tapeworms since they can be transmitted by ingesting infected fleas), among others. At this point, I recommend leaving his flea collar off and bathing Boo in original blue Dawn dish soap to remove any residue remaining from the permethrin sponge bath. Withhold food for the next 12 hours, then gradually offer very small frequent meals of a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days. After a few days, gradually mix the bland diet with his normal food over another 5-7 days. If Boo continues to vomit, develops diarrhea, becomes lethargic or stops eating, he will need to go to his vet for further evaluation. Once he vomiting resolves, be sure that Boo is regularly receiving a high quality flea preventative, such as Nexgard, Bravecto, or K9 Advantix II. I hope that he feels better soon!

I am not sure exactly what your question is. If the symptoms resolved with you removing the collar then I suggest you not use it anymore and use a different type of tick control like a topical or oral product. I suggest you consult with your vet as to what would be the best product to use for him in your area.

For example taking it off a few hours a day while being completely supervised to avoid further scratching. This can only be done if approved by your veterinarian who has more knowledge on the case. I would recommend you contact them to propose this to them and see if they agree this is a good plan again k knowing all the details about the case. If Chockey vomited 2-3 hours after you gave the Nexgard, it is likely that the tablet was digested and that he has the preventative in his system. If he vomited shortly after you gave the tablet, it is possible that he vomited up the nexgard. If you want to use a collar this should be absolutely fine as it is more of a topical preventative and not a systemic.
