My dog is acting weird after wearing a tick collar. What's wrong?

I would recommend staying away from collars if they are playing a lot and they play rough. My concern is that the collars get caught while they are playing. There are great topical and oral medications that can be given and these can be given monthly or certain ones can be given once every 3 months. It depends on the brand of collar, as I find most of them to be pretty poor. The only one I really like is Seresto. But if you are still finding ticks, I'd say this isn't working. I recommend a spot on treatment like Revolution, it's excellent. I hope this helps!

Hi. Looks like you did a great job. She will need to be seen as that site looks a little inflamed. And it seems the collar isnt working. I'd recommend getting a glea and tick preventative from your veterinarian. I also would recommend getting the environment treated as well to help break all the life cycles

In this product they use Amitraz. I have seen dogs react poorly to this medication. Typically they have vomiting, diarrhea and lethargic behavior. I would recommend taking him to your veterinarian for supportive care. Typically this is not a fatal medication but can make them dehydrated and need medical care! Some dogs just like people are more sensitive to certain medications. I would not recommend using this product again. Hope that helps

Typically there is a local skin reaction "bulls-eye" reddened area that forms at the site of the bite and this can lead to overall illness, including fever, vomiting, diarrhea. Investigate the site where the tick bit and then I would recommend taking him to your local veterinarian for a full physical examination and proper medication to help stop the allergic reaction he may be having to the tick bite itself. I would also recommend placing a Seresto collar, Adaptil collar, or giving Nexgard tablets (flea and tick preventative) to prevent future tick bites.

Oh no, poor Topo.I would recommend taking the citronella collar off, give him a good bath, and then monitor Topo for the next 30 minutes or so for any improvement in clinical signs. If he is still having heavy panting, vomiting and restlessness, then it is best to have him seen by an ER vet if your vet Is not available. He likely will need a steroid injection+/- antihistamine injection and possible fluids to stop the allergic reaction and flush it out of his system. I would bet that your essential oil flea collar just is not up to the job of preventing and killing fleas. Teether is obviously itching in exact those places which are favorite dwelling and biting places of fleas. You may not see fleas as they only hop on to eat then hop off again. I strongly suggest you use a reliable flea prevention product such as Spot-ons and/or chews Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi (Advocate in the UK) Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats, in tablet form for dogs Simparica, Nexgard Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Collar: Seresto (ticks as well)
