Why is my dog throwing up blood but still eating and acting normal?

It sounds as Walter is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Hello. A small amount of blood in vomitus may simply indicate that a small blood vessel, like a capillary, ruptured during the vomiting act. If it occurs again, it might be a good idea to find out if there are any issues or lesions either in the esophagus or upper part of the stomach. You indicate that Sonny is less than 2 years of age, so I would nor expect anything too serious, such as cancer, but the presence of an inflammatory or erosive lesion is a possibility. Your veterinarian may be able to examine the upper part of Sonny's esophagus under light sedation, or he may need to be thoroughly scoped to examine the lower part of the esophagus & stomach. This is a medical emergency, and Rosie needs to see a vet now. It is very serious when a dog throws up blood. She could have eaten something toxic, may have GI ulcers, could have a foreign body, or could have suffered trauma to her GI tract. She requires veterinary attention now to diagnose what is causing her to vomit blood so she can be treated. Please take her into a vet now.

If it was the one episode of vomiting and he is otherwise acting normally then I would be concerned but not panicked. I would watch him for the next 24 hours to see what happens. If there is more vomiting or bloody diarrhea then i would get him checked right away. It may be from having an empty stomach or eating something he was. It suppose to

I would recommend at least having him checked by your veterinarian and given some medications to help coat his stomach and intestinal lining to give things time to heal properly. He also may need to go on a short course of antacids to reduce the acid load for a while to allow things to heal well.
