My dog threw up fresh blood but acts normal. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 17 days old | 55 lbs

My dog threw up this morning some fresh looking blood. Picture attached. He otherwise seems perfectly fine.

It sounds as Walter is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

I think you are fine waiting for your Vet tomorrow since Lady is acting fine and eating. Blood in the vomit isn't super common but indicates stomach lining irritation and small ulcerations. It could be from all the common reasons for vomiting: ate something that didn't agree with her, virus, food sensitivity, toxic, foreign body.

If she vomits again withhold food and water until your appointment. Hopefully there is a simple explanation.

Because Sammy is on the older side I would definitely get this checked out as there is a fair bot of blood in the vomit. Seeing as he is in good form I wouldnt worry about an emergency appointment, make one for tomorrow. It may just be a touch of gastritis but it's best to get checked just in case he may have an ulcer or something more sinister. Usually the vet can prescribe omeprazole which can help settle the tummy.

Bloody streaked vomit should still be a concern, because it could be the beginning of something more serious. IT could also be caused by irritation of the esophagus if the pet has had multiple vomiting episodes. At any rate, it is still worth getting Mya checked by your veterinarian to get on medication to help stop the vomiting and medication to resolve the irritation of the esophagus and potential stomach. If left untreated for a few days, this can get worse, so its best to get Mya seen today if possible.
Best case scenario is that she has a bit of irritation to her esophagus and/or stomach and will respond well to anti-nausea medication as well as a coating medication prescribed by your vet.

Why is my dog throwing up blood but still eating and acting normal?

Throwing up blood is a very serious concern and could be caused from an upper respiratory bleed (the dog swallows blood from that and then regurgitates it), an injury in his mouth or throat or a bleeding ulcer. Please take Missy to a vet right away for an exam.
