My dog has yellow nose discharge, sneezes, wheezes, and mouth breathing.

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Male | unneutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 5 lbs

My dog ( a miniature poodle) has a gooey substance around his nose it is a yellow/white color. He also sneezes and somewhat wheezes often. He also looks like he always has his mouth slightly open for him to breath instead of through his nose. (he does experience seizures but we are familiar with them and happen more rarely) What do you think could be wrong with him? Also, What should I do to help him?

Oh no, poor Ruffus! From your picture, it looks like he is quite ill. I see significant discharge from his eye, and that mucus from his nose is quite thick. He could be suffering from a severe respiratory infection causing his symptoms. If he's breathing through his mouth, then it is likely because he is very congested. Ruffus could also have an eye infection causing the discharge, and any problem with the eye should be considered an emergency because it's such an important and delicate structure. He does need to see a vet immediately for these symptoms so he can be treated. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

In the case of infections, the discharge may become cloudy or yellow/green, whereas allergies tend to stay clear. In either case, since this has been ongoing a few days, it's a good idea to bring Julian into your vet. They can provide allergy medications or other treatments as needed depending on the cause. If you notice him worsening, the discharge changing color, fever, or changes in behavior or appetite, that's a sign that he needs to be seen sooner. Until then, keeping his eyes and nose clear with a clean washcloth can help keep him comfortable and prevent any debris from getting stuck and crusting his nostrils or eyes shut. Keeping him eating and drinking and in an area free of dust and dander can also help.

Why is my dog sneezing and congested? What are the possible causes?

This could most commonly be caused by something like kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection, but also be caused by something mechanical, like a grass seed stuck in the nose. My puppy has a dry nose, is wheezing, and lethargic. Is he sick?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Percy is adorable! From the second picture it looks like he has a respiratory infection. A dry or wet nose doesn’t tell us a lot about their health but dogs shouldn’t have green discharge from the nose. I recommend taking him to a vet for an exam. They may need to take an X-ray to make sure it’s not in his lungs. They can also start him on antibiotics for the infection. Good luck and kisses to Percy!

Why is my dog coughing and has yellow-green nasal discharge?

It looks like and sounds like from your description that your dog has a respiratory infection. I would recommend that he be seen by your veterinarian as he needs some prescription antibiotics due to the thick nasal discharge. Your pet is contagious to all other dogs and should be isolated from any contact with any other dogs.

He could have a respiratory tract infection making him congested with nasal discharge. Perhaps this is making him lethargic. Difficulty breathing though is very worrisome.
