My dog is 10.5 lbs. Can I still use Revolution for dogs up to 10 lbs?

high doses of this medication can be toxic and I would not recommend giving the full dose. I would call your veterinarian, or stop by if possible to see if this product can be returned as they may have given this to by mistake. Your go needs the 5-10lb sizing and if your vet dose not have that in stock you could consider trying other products or purchasing else where with a written prescription

Heartworm prevention is indeed needed in all stages and I would highly recommend heartworm prevention which is included in the revolution. However, it is important to make sure that Maggie does not have heartworms before you start it so I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for a heartworm test first if she was not on heartworm prevention previously. She'll probably be fine for this month if she's just a pound or two over. But in the future, if she's gained a bit of weight and is now borderline or just over the maximum weight for her current dose, I would get the next size up. Nexgard has a very wide margin of safety, so the manufacturer recommends "rounding up" if a dog is near the upper limit of the weight range. :)

You are very welcome! For most pets, Revolution is fine for heartworm prevention unless your area is experiencing very high levels of heartworm exposure or immunity to the product. Call your veterinarian and ask if there is a specific reason that he/she recommends an additional heartworm prevention. It’s always best to gather all the information! I can understand your concern here. It is likely going to still be effective b/c it will soak down to his actual skin. Plus there is a range for this product so even if most gets on the haircoat, it is usually going to still be effective. Worst case scenario is that it will lose some of its effectiveness around week 2-3 at which point you can safely apply an additional dosage.
