My dog gained weight. Is her Nexgard still protecting her from fleas?

Sentinel has no tick coverage and does not kill fleas. It only sterilizes the eggs. I always go up a size to be safe as most dogs gain weight but rarely lose weight. It has a good safety margin so using the 25-50 pounds medicine would be best. You will continue to need the Simparica or nexgard with this

Since he is still growing, I recommend starting with 3 doses, or even single doses until he is either done growing or over 10 pounds. Check his weight prior to each dose to assure that he is still in the appropriate dose range.

Hello. It would be best to make sure your pet gets the correct dose so the first thing I would try is to see if Costco will exchange the Nexguard for the next higher dose. If not, I would just give your pet 2 of the ones you have. The problem with just breaking off a small piece is the unequal distribution of the product in each chew tab. You may wind up not giving enough. The size you have contains 68 mg of the active ingredient & the next size up that you need ( 60.1 pounds & up ) contains 136 mg. So, 2 tabs are appropriate. No adverse reactions were observed in healthy Beagle puppies over 8 weeks of age when treated with 5 times the maximum dose repeated 6 times at intervals of 2-4 weeks. She should be fine! NexGard has a large margin of safety if as dog gets or eats multiple doses. Monitor for GI upset and feed a bland diet for a few days to settle the stomach. Your dog will likely suffer no ill effects.

This is because the active ingredient amount is weight dependent. A bigger pet needs more of the active ingredient to kill the fleas than a smaller pet. It's fine to use these on your pets this month and next month. If they are close to a year old, they will not grow much bigger. I hope this helps!

No worries. You can safely switch up flea medication every 2-4 weeks no problem. All flea prevention is labeled as safe for dogs but pets can have adverse reactions to just about any medication unfortunately. But these are not expected to happen.
