Found roundworm after deworming. Is my cat's Revolution still working?

You are very welcome! For most pets, Revolution is fine for heartworm prevention unless your area is experiencing very high levels of heartworm exposure or immunity to the product. Call your veterinarian and ask if there is a specific reason that he/she recommends an additional heartworm prevention. It’s always best to gather all the information! Yes, it is fine to deworm her again. Due to the fact that Merrill currently has worms, she should be dewormed every month for the next two to three months, and then she should be dewormed every three months. It's also safe to give her the Revolution again now. It can be given as early as two weeks after the previous treatment if needed.

A heavy parasite load can cause some GI upset such as diarrhea as the worms die off and are expelled from the body. In some cases, multiple dewormings are needed to clear them all. However, if you suspect there is something else going on, such as an allergic reaction to the medication, the worms, or another underlying illness, it would be best to seek veterinary care ASAP for further examination and workup.

If you have a flea infestation in your house or yard it will be harder for the Revolution to be fully effective. Make sure you vacuum regularly, and treat the other pets in the household as well as the yard if that is practical. I use a flea comb dipped in soapy water to catch the fleas on Dexter. You’ll find that the fleas are slower than normal because they are dying. If you are consistent with your flea control in the house, other pets, and yard and use Revolution monthly as directed the fleas should all be gone in several weeks. Hello. As the dewormer works (and yes it is that fast) the worms that were inside your kitten will be passed out in the poop. This may continue to happen for the next few days. Make sure you follow the deworming protocol that your vet has suggested as the various stages of the worms need to be killed at different times, so a one-time shot won't necessarily work depending on the product. Also, roundworms can be contracted by people, and the eggs are shed through the feces, so if you are 'eating' (fecal bits on your pillow and your face goes on this) the feces then you could get the worms. The shedding period will last until the burden is gone, so I would give it a couple months. It would be very unlikely for you to contract worms through this method however. Good luck with Newt!

Revolution Plus will not kill tapeworms. You will need to have Bella Blue seen by your veterinarian for confirmation and for treatment with an appropriate medication. Get her back onto flea medication and use it for at least 3 consecutive months (to break the flea life cycle) or, preferably, year round. You will likely need to treat the house as well. Vacuum everywhere and dispose of the bag or empty the canister outdoors immediately after. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric and dry in the dryer. Use an area treatment, such as Indorex or Knockout, to prevent reinfestation. You will need to keep her out of living areas until the area treatment is completely dry.
