Is Revolution for 10-20lb dogs too much for my small 5lb dog?

Hello, and thank you for your question. If she is over the weight limit by 0.5 lbs, this should not affect the efficacy of revolution. Monitor her weight closely though, because if she gains more weight and goes 2 or 3 lbs over the weight limit, then you will need to switch sizes! Heartworm prevention is indeed needed in all stages and I would highly recommend heartworm prevention which is included in the revolution. However, it is important to make sure that Maggie does not have heartworms before you start it so I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for a heartworm test first if she was not on heartworm prevention previously. I would not give him another dose so quickly, since most of it is on him, just not in the location you were aiming for. You can however, safely repeat the Revolution in 2 weeks time, to ensure he is fully covered and protected. If you do happen to notice any fleas in the meantime, you can safely give him a Capstar tablet for emergency flea relief, which can be found at your local pet store. You should give him the appropriate size. If you don’t give him the appropriate size you don’t get the full course of action. You are very welcome! For most pets, Revolution is fine for heartworm prevention unless your area is experiencing very high levels of heartworm exposure or immunity to the product. Call your veterinarian and ask if there is a specific reason that he/she recommends an additional heartworm prevention. It’s always best to gather all the information!
