My puppy has red in the outer corner of her eye. Is it serious?

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 4 months and 6 days old | 36 lbs

My 18 weeks old standard poodle pup has some red in her eye (along her pupil), should I be concerned? Both side of the eyes, both are outter corner of eyes. She sees fine and she is healthy as far as I known. One vet checked three weeks ago, said she is fine, I just wanted a second opinion. Thanks so much.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Coco. The redness appears very mild. It is likely not a problem for her, but if it persists, I would have her eyes re-evaluated. She could have an eyelash irritating her cornea or be experiencing a mild seasonal allergy. If she develops squinting, eye discharge or begins to paw at the eye, she will need to be seen right away. There is a good chance Jessie has allergies that are causing the eye redness and itching. You can try her on Benadryl to see if this helps. There is a discussion about it with dosing information on this website. I also recommend a veterinary exam of her eyes if this continues. She may have inverted eyelids called entropion which can irritate the cornea, be painful and cause her to rub her eyes. There is a minor surgery to correct this condition, which should be done if needed to prevent permanent scarring of the cornea. This is a fairly common problem in puppies so please have your veterinarian look at her eyes at your next visit. It looks like Chelsea's third eyelid is elevated on the left side, which often is a sign that the cornea underneath is irritated. There are some other eye diseases or neurologic diseases that could cause this as well. I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian so they can look for a scratch on the surface of the cornea.

It doesn't look like a bump, it looks more like red skin like she scraped it or something. The eyeball itself looks fine and the eye does not appear red or irritated which is good. I suggest you just monitor this throughout the weekend and if no improvement by early next week then get her to your vet for an exam. I don't think I'd be too worried at this stage. Hope this helps. Why are my dog's eyes red only on the bottom? Is it serious?

From the photo this looks normal or a mild conjunctivitis. If she’s squinting, the eyes are painful or there is excessive tearing or discharge then please take her in for an eye exam tomorrow. To me it looks like her lower eyelids are more droopy than most dogs and this exposes more of the eyeball. That could result in the redness you are seeing. Again from the photo I’m not overly concerned at this point but I certainly recommend an exam to be sure there isn’t a medical problem that needs treatment. My dog has a red-brown mark under one eye. Should I be worried?

This just looks like an area of inflammation in the conjunctiva. It may have developed from something irritating in the eye. At this point it’s nothing to be overly concerned about. Please check it daily, it should improve and go away in a few days. If it starts to look worse then certainly a veterinary exam is indicated. My puppy's eye is red and irritated. What's causing this issue?

Although a pic would be needed to determine specifically the type of eye problem your Mia is having (the signs are unfortunately a bit generic), that is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. My puppy has red eyes and drooping lower lids. Is it serious?

It's hard to tell if what you are seeing is normal or not. Some people mistake the appearance of the 3rd eyelid as a problem, when really it is normal. Suede also may have conjunctivitis, or inflammation/infection of the tissue surrounding his eyes. He could have allergies that cause the redness and prominence of his 3rd eyelid, the pink tissue present in the 2nd picture. Without doing an exam and looking at those tissues and in and around his eye, it is impossible to tell. If he starts squinting, that is a sign of pain, so I would definitely take him in asap. I would recommend you take him in to your vet for an exam to see if he needs any topical treatment for his eyes or if what you are seeing is his normal anatomy.

My 2-month-old puppy has a red vein in her eye. Is it serious?

If Scarlet is squinting or if her eye has discharge I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian. The blood vessels in the eye can become larger when dogs are excited or when they have eye infection or inflammation. If just the one blood vessel is affected and she doesn't seem uncomfortable you probably don't need to intervene unless the redness gets worse.
