Why is my dog's eye red after entropion surgery, is it normal?

If Teddi's surgery was just yesterday, he will still have some swelling in the eyelid from the surgery, which will make the eyelid look droopier (swelling will push the lower eyelid away from the eye). It should improve as the swelling goes down. Keep giving him the medication prescribed by your vet, and schedule a recheck for a week out from surgery to make sure he's healing appropriately. My suspicion is this will look significantly better in a week! Hope this helps!

It's quite common for the eye to be watery after such a surgery but it is extremely important that Noel wares an ecollar around her neck to prevent her from scratching the eye as she could do herself significant damage if she does.

Bleu has such pretty eyes!! I would recommend a recheck with your vet now that some of the swelling and redness has resolved. There may be something additional going on that needs to be addressed, or perhaps she needs to receive a different type of eye drops. Be sure and ask your veterinarian to take a close look at Bleu’s eyelids-sometimes, especially in young growing dogs, the lower (and occasionally upper) eyelid can roll onwards and irritate the surface of the eye-This is called entropion and can require surgery to correct. I would agree that I think Buster is most likely reacting to the internal sutures. Depending on the type of material used, internal sutures may take up to 6 months to completely dissolve. I have seen many dogs who seem itchy post operatively and it will generally subside with time. I would recommend to call the doctor and ask about using a product such as Cytopoint or Apoquel which may help with the itching. Be careful rubbing the area, it may feel great to Buster but you don't want to cause trauma. Best of luck!

This does look quite uncomfortable for your pet Lana and I would say that yes a warm water rag is ok to use, but then I would consider getting a second opinion on this eye to see if there is more that can be done to help resolve the complications that occurred. It looks to be quite a bit of swelling there, but I am unsure how many days post sx your pet is in. It is typical to see post op swelling for 3-5 days, but it should be slowly improving every day. Topical as well as oral antibiotics may be needed here if there is a suspected infection at the incision site. Even a suture reaction is possible here. I hope that Lana's eye gets better soon! Poor Rocky! Those eyes do look irritated. He may have a distichia (a stray lash on the inside of the eyelid; as apposed the the eyelids rolling in--entropion which I think is what you are describing he had). Sometimes these cannot be found without magnification. Its also possible that he has another condition such as uveitis (inflammation inside the layer of eye that involves the retina), or he may have KCS, also known as dry eye. If a shermer tear test has not yet been done by your vet, you might ask about it; this is a simple test for dry eye. It may be very beneficial for Rocky to see a veterinary ophthalmologist since he's having some ongoing problems. Specialists can be extremely helpful in these cases. This can sometimes happen during surgery, especially when the blood pressure changes or the eye gets irritated. I would not worry too much about it. If the redness has not disappeared by Thursday or Friday or if it is getting worse, , take your dog back to the vet for a recheck.
