My German Shepherd has bumps near her rear. Are they hemorrhoids?

Dogs do not get hemorrhoids. This could be a skin infection or an anal gland infection. Unfortunately there is also a possibility that your dog may have a beginning tumor at this site. The earlier such conditions are treated the more likely they can be cured. You will need to schedule an appointment with your vet to have this examined. At best it is just a harmless skin change, but there is no way to determine that from a photograph.

Hi, sorry to hear that Chimey is in pain. One thing you need to consider is that dogs don’t suffer with haemorrhoids like humans. They can have different conditions affecting the area. They can suffer with impacted anal glands and these can be treated medically up to a certain point. They can also have tumours in the same area, some are benign tumours, other malignant. I would therefore recommend that Chimey is examined by a vet in order to make the correct diagnosis and have the necessary treatment. We do not usually see hemorrhoids in dogs. IT is quite possible that his skin is very irritated from being wet and being in contact with the feces, and this could be the cause of the pink color and raised skin. It is possible as well that cutting his fur could have caused a tiny cut in the skin (it can be very tough to cut the fur on a pet in this area without accidentally cutting the skin, we usually use clippers to do this in the vet clinic). I would wash the area well with a mild soap or dog shampoo and monitor it closely. If it becomes more red/swollen or has any discharge, a visit to your vet is needed to be sure there isn't a more significant problem.

This bump is a little unusual although it's always difficult to tell in a picture - it could be a comedone but it does not look raised. If there are multiple bumps you should probably have your vet take a look in person. The scratching could be related to allergies or fleas or other external parasites, and it's possible that these spots are related.

It is hard to tell for sure by the pictures, but my suspicion would be that it is either a perianal tumor that has bled, or potentially a ruptured anal sac abscess. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If it is an abscess then antibiotics will likely be needed. If it is a tumor then the veterinarian can discuss options with you. Often perianal tumors are benign. Dog hemorrhoids (piles) are very rare and can easily be confused with other conditions including impacted anal glands, rectal tumors or perianal fistulas. The first thing you need to do is have Chiku examined by your veterinarian to confirm that this is in fact what is going on. Having your vet express Chiku's anal glands is also a good idea. If the problem is indeed hemorrhoids, you can apply chilled witchhazel to the rectum followed by a small amount of petroleum jelly. I hope this helps you take care of Chiku. Unfortunately the color on the picture is quite distorted. However if appears to be a possible abscess (infected pocket caused by trauma to the skin) or a large inflammatory response to a bug bite (spider perhaps). It is large however and looks irritated so I would recommend having your vet examine this area closely. Jasmine will likely need some medicaitons to get this to resolve well. Poor girl.
