My dog has a wet spot near his rear. Could it be hemorrhoids?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 3 months old | 81 lbs

I sent a question asking if dogs could have hemorrhoids with a photo. I was ask to send a better photo due to the photo being too dark. please see attached. I have ointment on it now. That is why it looks wet

Dogs do not get hemorrhoids. This could be a skin infection or an anal gland infection. Unfortunately there is also a possibility that your dog may have a beginning tumor at this site. The earlier such conditions are treated the more likely they can be cured. You will need to schedule an appointment with your vet to have this examined. At best it is just a harmless skin change, but there is no way to determine that from a photograph.

You will need to take your dog to a veterinarian for a skin exam. This looks like a hotspot, i.e. a bacterial or fungal infection. each of these requires a different treatment, so it is important to find out what is causing this.. Your vet will do a thorough exam, shave, clean and disinfect, and maybe a a skin scrape. He will then discuss the options with you and then prescribe medications, an ointment and/or a shampoo.

That looks like a hotspot (moist dermatitis). You would need to have Lucky physically examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. Given his other symptoms, an exam is strongly recommended.
Treatment for a hotspot typically includes shaving and scrubbing the spot followed up with antibiotics and pain medications. An e-collar (cone) should be placed to prevent scratching or rubbing.

It is possible this may be a hotspot (moist dermatitis). You will need to have Hades examined by your veterinarian for a definitive diagnosis and for treatment. The area should be clipped and cleaned. Hades may need antibiotics to treat any infection. An e-collar (cone) should be used to prevent scratching or rubbing until the spot is healed.

We do not usually see hemorrhoids in dogs. IT is quite possible that his skin is very irritated from being wet and being in contact with the feces, and this could be the cause of the pink color and raised skin. It is possible as well that cutting his fur could have caused a tiny cut in the skin (it can be very tough to cut the fur on a pet in this area without accidentally cutting the skin, we usually use clippers to do this in the vet clinic). I would wash the area well with a mild soap or dog shampoo and monitor it closely. If it becomes more red/swollen or has any discharge, a visit to your vet is needed to be sure there isn't a more significant problem.

My dog has a bloody lump near her anus. Is it a hemorrhoid? What now?

It is hard to tell for sure by the pictures, but my suspicion would be that it is either a perianal tumor that has bled, or potentially a ruptured anal sac abscess. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If it is an abscess then antibiotics will likely be needed. If it is a tumor then the veterinarian can discuss options with you. Often perianal tumors are benign. Why is my dog's rear swollen? Hemorrhoids or anal gland issues?

Hi, sorry to hear that Chimey is in pain. One thing you need to consider is that dogs don’t suffer with haemorrhoids like humans. They can have different conditions affecting the area. They can suffer with impacted anal glands and these can be treated medically up to a certain point. They can also have tumours in the same area, some are benign tumours, other malignant. My dog has a sore, swollen spot near his rectum. What could it be?

I would recommend that you have it checked out by a vet. From just your description, what you may be seeing could be a perianal fistula, an abscess, and infected anal gland, a rectal prolapse, a wound caused by scooting or excessive licking, etc. Prevent Roscoe from licking, and if you see him scooting then he may need to wear a doggie diaper to prevent further damage to the area. If you can take a picture and attach it to a new post, we may be able to help you a bit more.

Dogs do not develop hemorrhoids as humans do. However, they can develop problems associated with their anal glands, benign or malignant masses, overgrowth of anal tissues, among others. Anal glands sometimes need to be emptied and can require antibiotics if they become infected. My dog has a red lump or blister near his anus. Is it serious?

It's a little difficult to tell from your picture alone - being able to examine and touch a lump in person makes it much easier to determine what it is. This could be a skin tumor, a small abscess or inflammatory nodule, or a lesion from something like contact hypersensitivity. I would recommend having this lump examined by your veterinarian since it looks red and possibly like there is discharge. If he is licking or chewing at the lump you should put an e-collar on him until you can see a veterinarian. They may know what it is after being able to examine it or may recommend taking an aspirate sample using a small needle to look for cells under the microscope.
