Is it safe to use air conditioning for my dog and her new puppies?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. At approximately 6 weeks of age, a larger breed puppy such as a Golden Retriever, should be able to thermoregulate normally. You only have to worry about the ambient temperature of a room when talking about newborn puppies up to 4 weeks of age. Austin should be just fine at whatever temperature you have for yourselves and blankets should not be needed. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! They could jut be more vocal during the day because of all the activity. I would try to keep them indoors where there is air conditioning and fans. If they have to be outdoors then they should be in the shade and not ever in the direct sun. The puppies should not get too hot as that is life threatening, so see what you can do to the environment to change the ambient temperature. I wouldn't recommend the ambient temperature higher than 80 F. I wish you the very best!

Those weights are about right for newborns. The puppies like it warm and I think the air conditioner off with it being warm outside is just fine. They’ll stay closer to Mom if they need to be warmer. The fan is fine but not blowing directly on the puppies. Pixie should be fine, the area needs to be warm for her puppies. They have to kept at a higher temperature because they can't regulate their own temperature. Keep a supply of cool water for her at all times to help cool her down as needed. I hope this helps!

There is no need for a heating pad. Mama does a great job keeping the temperature just perfect for the babies. There is a danger that if you use a heating pad under the puppies the temperature may be too high and hurt the puppies.

It depends on the dog. Your Aura may find it cool enough to be in a room with fan. However, if he keeps panting, drooling and looking unsettled he may need a room with AC to avoid overheating. If you can provide him with AC in the hottest days, please do so. I am sure he will feel better at 18-20C.

As long as its placed at a distance that prevents them from potentially bumping into it and burning themselves, then yes, you can. However, its often not needed, especially in the summer.,as long as momma dog is right there are they are in a protected area with bedding/blankets/and snuggling together.
