Newborn puppies crying in hot weather: Is this normal or dangerous?

Those weights are about right for newborns. The puppies like it warm and I think the air conditioner off with it being warm outside is just fine. They’ll stay closer to Mom if they need to be warmer. The fan is fine but not blowing directly on the puppies. Puppies are prone to getting cold, so I would only do this if it seems that it's too hot in their environment. You can start with a low amount of AC if needed and turn it up if they tolerate it well. You will know the puppies are too cold if they forming a tight huddle next to or under mom. If they are more spread out, then this would indicate that they are very warm. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Heat could defenitely cause your puppies to not want to eat. With that heat it is very important to have an area of shade for them to hide, as well as free access to cool water at all times. Ideally, have a sprinkler or some water source (kiddy pool filled with water) that they can go in to cool down. Dogs overheat very easily and can get very sick with overheating. Puppies cry when they want something like to eat or attention, or possibly to go outside. They are a little young to know how to be properly potty trained. I would make sure the mom is nursing then properly and everyone is properly gaining weight. I would make sure there isn't another reason they could be crying. With them being so young, I would be careful letting them spend too much time in the environment because they are at high risk for different illnesses since their immune system is weak and they haven't had their shots. Puppies usually cry when they are hungry or cold. Make sure she is latching and that mama dog has milk. Also open the puppies mouth and make sure the roof of the mouth looks normal- and no cleft palate. You may need to go buy puppy milk replacer and bottles. Hi, and thanks for posting this question. Ambient temperature for pups that age should be around 80 degrees, so as long as mom is with them her body heat probably keeps it around that temp. If she will be gone for any length of time then you may want to increase the temperature slightly . Have fun with those pups, and thanks for using Pet Coach..
