Are reptile heat lamps safe for keeping newborn puppies warm?

There is no need for a heating pad. Mama does a great job keeping the temperature just perfect for the babies. There is a danger that if you use a heating pad under the puppies the temperature may be too high and hurt the puppies.

That should be fine for Johnny as long as he has an area to get away from the heating lamp if he gets hot. For any pet that uses a heating area, they need to have the ability to get away from the heat source to make sure they do not overheat. Puppies are prone to getting cold, so I would only do this if it seems that it's too hot in their environment. You can start with a low amount of AC if needed and turn it up if they tolerate it well. You will know the puppies are too cold if they forming a tight huddle next to or under mom. If they are more spread out, then this would indicate that they are very warm. Yes, the stuffing could harm the puppies if they swallowed it. You need to be bring your dog and her puppies inside immediately. Newborn puppies cannot regulate their temperature, and they have to be kept at 29.5-32C. It is not acceptable to keep them outside in this weather, please bring them all in immediately.

Pixie should be fine, the area needs to be warm for her puppies. They have to kept at a higher temperature because they can't regulate their own temperature. Keep a supply of cool water for her at all times to help cool her down as needed. I hope this helps!

Hi, and thanks for posting this question. Ambient temperature for pups that age should be around 80 degrees, so as long as mom is with them her body heat probably keeps it around that temp. If she will be gone for any length of time then you may want to increase the temperature slightly . Have fun with those pups, and thanks for using Pet Coach..

Those weights are about right for newborns. The puppies like it warm and I think the air conditioner off with it being warm outside is just fine. They’ll stay closer to Mom if they need to be warmer. The fan is fine but not blowing directly on the puppies.
