My dog poops less often now. Is this normal if she acts fine?

Yes, this sounds perfectly normal. Many dogs only have a bowel movement once a day and some occasionally skip a day between bowel movements. As long as Buddy is eating, drinking and acting normally without straining to have a bowel movement, there is likely no reason for concern. :-)

No worries. As he gets closer to 6 months of age, he will naturally have less bowel movements. This doesn't really sound like an issue to me - dogs can sometimes change their behavior patterns when it comes to the frequency of defecation and it doesn't usually mean there's a problem as long as the stool appears normal. It is also quite common for the first stool to be normal and subsequent stools softer, particularly if the dog is exercising. As long as Oakley has a good appetite, is not losing weight, and does not have blood or mucous in his stool you probably don't need to be concerned.

For example, it may be that she is eating a diet that is high in protein and low in fiber for instance. This could be easily fixed by feeding her a diet that is higher in fiber. This seems to be pretty normal activity for a growing puppy. They tend to fluctuate with stools and also his food requirements are not going to be as much as they were when he was a younger pup (< 6 months of age). He should also only need to eat twice a day now and follow the guidelines on his food bag. Also, since he is eating less he will naturally produce fewer stools. Most pets by the time they are adults will produce 1-2 stools a day normally. I wouldn't change anything that you are currently doing, nor would I be concerned that anything is wrong with Ollie based on this description of events. Now if he develops any signs of illness which include vomiting, diarrhea, and complete disinterest in food, then I would recommend taking him in to your local vet for an exam and treatment. Otherwise, continue to enjoy your pup who is steadily maturing into an adult dog. Dogs are much like people in this regard. Anywhere from 3 times a day to every other day can be normal. If Ozzy is happy, eating, playing, and urinating normally, don’t worry about it. As long as he poops within 24-36 hours I’m not panicking. Do watch for straining, blood, or any other concerning signs. If you see any of these, it’s time to see the vet.
