My dog poops less & has firm then loose stools. Should I be worried?

Yes, the slightly less firm stool can still be normal, and often stools will get progressively less firm when dogs defecate multiple times in succession on a walk or playing out in the yard. If it is getting notably looser to the point of diarrhea, then Max should be seen by a vet. But your description sounds completely normal! Hope this helps!

As long as Gary isn't straining to defecate or having other problems I wouldn't worry about his stool seeming to be small or firm. The typical frequency for defecation is once a day to several times a day, and some dogs may not even go once a day. If Gary is straining to defecate or has a history of anal gland problems or constipation this may not be ideal, but otherwise you probably don't need to make any changes to his diet.

Congratulations on your new puppy she is adorable! I would not worry at all about the change in her poo, as long as she is still happy and well in herself. Some variation between bowel movements is normal. The intestines can also be affected by stress, which she may be experiencing some of with all the changes. If you notice that it continues to be loose you may consider adding some cooked, skinless sweet potato to her regular dog food.

Hello. Probably not. Exercise can & will facilitate bowel movements, & the faster stool moves through the bowels, the less water is absorbed making the stools a little softer. This may be just normal for your pup. If anything changes, of course discuss this with your veterinarian, but if everything else is OK, I would not be too worried. Most dogs only have one bowel movement per day and some only have a bowel movement every other day. As long as a dog is eating, drinking and acting normally, and seems to be having a normal bowel movement without straining, I don’t worry. As puppies grow, their guts mature. Additionally, different diets have different fiber content. Both of these changes can change the frequency of bowel movements. It sounds as though Harley’s bowel movement frequency is completely normal!

If he's eating less fiber/volume or has had a change in diet while healing, it can be normal to see a reduction (or increase) in stool size, volume, or frequency. As long as he seems to be going normally when he does go, and doesn't seem in distress, I would just keep an eye on him. If the stool becomes bloody, is frequently diarrhea, Romeo has a sore or tender abdomen, or he seems to be having other symptoms in addition, a recheck with your vet is best.

Hi, I would not worry if Pogi is well in himself apart from this runny poo. As you say, sometimes it can vary quite a bit according to what they have eaten or for other factors, perhaps feeling a bit under the weather etc. Keep an eye on his next poo. If he does more of these feaces, I would recommend to have him checked over and at least have a feacal test done. Try to feed him his usual diet and keep an eye on his appetite. If his next toilet looks the same you could try to offer him a bland, easy to digest diet such as chicken and rice, fish and rice or Hill’s I/D. Hope he does not give you any more worries !
