My dog has pink raw skin around eyes with discharge. What's wrong?

It does appear that this is more a problem with the skin around the eyes rather than the eye itself. This is commonly seen with demodex (https://mobile.petcoach.co/amp/article/demodectic-mange) infestations in juvenile dogs. It is less common with older dogs and is more of a concern with older dogs. In a puppy, these infestations will resolve on their own after a couple of months. Some require treatment with an antiparasitic. If Bear is an adult, then he will need treatment. It's also possible that this is infected by yeast or bacteria, so it's best to have a vet evaluate him to make a diagnosis. For now, it's good to flush the area with saline for 1-2 minutes three times a day. If it is getting worse, then he probably needs professional treatment to keep it from getting too bad. Poor Sandy. That area looks really irritated. Certainly mites can cause hair loss around the eye, but we normally see hair loss around both eyes without any redness or moisture (which it appears that Sandy has). It also appears that Sandy has some crusting along the inside of the area as well. It may be more likely that he has a bacterial skin infection called a hot spot (https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=2714) that results from an overgrowth of normal bacteria on the skin. Your veterinarian can perform a couple of simple skin tests to determine if Sandy has any evidence of mites, if we are dealing with a bacterial infection of the skin or if there is another problem. That may require looking at a sample under the microscope. Then they can help you determine the best treatment for him since we have to be careful treating the skin around the eye. Good luck! It looks as though Mickey could possibly be dealing with a skin infection or skin mites. I would recommend you take him to your veterinarian for a workup of this to diagnose it appropriately so that the most effective treatment can be prescribed. Hi. I would be thinking allergies in her case. It can cause redness, itching, secondary infections, even crusts in the area. Pets can be allergic to the protein in their food, environmental allergens, or a combination of the two. When they are younger like Rey, i would lean more towards food allergies. They are usually allergic to the chicken, beef or lamb....the most common ingredients in most over the counter dog foods. I would make an appointmet to get her checked out and get her on medications for secondary infection and itchiness. And also discuss food allergies with your veterinarian.

I would want to look a bit closer to be sure, but this looks normal to me. The pink skin around the eye tends to be more prominent in the areas of white fur. If you are adopting from a shelter, then they usually have a veterinarian on staff. That looks like it could be an infection, skin mites or perhaps ringworm (which humans can get). I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian if the lesion does not start getting better on it's own within the next few days. May sure he cannot rub the area and don't put anything on the area since it's so close to his eye. You can also have him examined sooner and not wait. Hello Mark, this could be an allergy or a mite infestation, there are other things that can cause that but these two options are the most common. i would recommend having it checked by your vet and have a skin scrape done in order to confirm or rule out the mite possibility as the first step and then go from there according to the result.
