Is pink skin around my dog's eye normal, an infection, or allergies?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed

Hi! I’m about to adopt a one year old Jack Russell mix. I noticed she has some pink around her eye and I’m not sure if it’s normal skin or if she might have an infection or maybe just allergies. I attached a photo that shows her eye - it’s the best one I have right now. Please help!

I would want to look a bit closer to be sure, but this looks normal to me. The pink skin around the eye tends to be more prominent in the areas of white fur.

If you are adopting from a shelter, then they usually have a veterinarian on staff. You can ask for the vet to just check the eye before you adopt, so that you can be certain that nothing is wrong with it.

I hope that helps and all is well with Bru.
