My dog's paw is swollen and weepy after a tight bandage. Is it serious?

This can sometimes happen, one day it looks good and does not hurt, and the next the dog injures it again because it did not hurt anymore but is not quite strong enough. I suggest that you keep your dog from getting dirt into the injury, preferably keep him from running around too much and take him back to the vet for a recheck on Monday. If the swollen area is colder than the rest of the foot, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian today, as there may be a serious problem with the blood circulation of the leg.

Yes, I would get a cone. Be sure that the cone extends past the end of his nose or he will still be able to lick. This could be a serious problem. Bumps between the toes can be anything from a cyst, to a tumor to an abscess. You can keep soaking it with Epsom salts. You can apply the aloe but it's not likely to help; Neosporin would be better. I suggest you don't wrap it. If you bandage it too tight or incorrectly then you can cause more damage. If after 4-5 days he is not better you need to get him to the vet for an exam.

The swelling is very bad. You are correct to be concerned. I suggest you get him back to the vet ASAP to have the bandage removed and replaced. He is a lot of pain for sure which is why he is trying to bite. The fracture is unstable at this stage so you can't just take the bandage off and leave it like that. The vet should put on a full length cast that incorporates the foot. If you don't get this treated immediately the blood/nerve supply may end up being compromised to the foot. This is an emergency.

Yes, the circulation was compromised but the nerves could also have been damaged. My hope is that with time the nerves and vessels will return to normal. Irritation and infection from licking can very well cause swelling and irritation like this, and KetoHex alone probably won't be enough to get the swelling down if he's still able to lick it. I highly recommend that you put an e-collar (also known as a cone) on VooDoo so that he can't get to the paw. I know it's rough on them, but they don't know not to lick, and he'll just wind up making his paw worse and worse. That being said, if the swelling doesn't go down after he hasn't been able to lick it for a while, I suggest re-visiting the vet to see if there could be anything stuck in the skin of his paw, like a tiny thorn. I have seen swelling like this caused by a foreign object in the past, and sometimes they can be very hard to see. The vet may also be able to prescribe some anti-inflammatories that will help with the swelling and pain (do not give anything over-the-counter as they could be dangerous to VooDoo). It is also possible that the swelling is being caused by a tumor, but considering VooDoo's age, I highly doubt that this is the case. Good luck, and I hope that VooDoo's foot feels better soon!

Oh no, poor Coby! He could have a foreign body in his paw causing the bump, bleeding, and his licking it raw. It sounds like you've done a good job of covering it tonight, and I would put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking at it. I will put a link below on how to make an Ecollar at home. Please remove the rest of the bandage and you can do some gentle massage up and down the leg to improve the circulation. Holding the paw and rhythmically squeezing and releasing will help also. Please use a restraint collar so Kolsch doesn't chew her incision or make a sore on the swollen leg or paw. I encourage 2-5 minute slow controlled leash walks. If the swelling doesn't resolve by tomorrow I recommend a recheck with the veterinarian who performed the surgery.
