My dog is recovering from Parvo. What should their poop look like?

I think his stool looks pretty good. I would not worry about the color. The yellow specks could just be undigested food. Don't worry about it too much right now. Just keep an eye on the stools and if these yellow specks continue you may want to have your vet check the stool for parasites.

Poor Scooter. I am so glad that she is doing better. All the signs you describe seems like she is improving. The tarry black stool looks like either digested blood or it could be a side effect of pepto if you gave her any of that. If she is eating and drinking and starting to become more active then I think she is on the mends! With her being so small, you could continue the pedialyte for a few more days until you are confident that she is feeling 100% better.

Black feces are concerning for digested blood. I recommend to collect a sample of the stool and take it into your veterinarian’s office for an example. They can determine if blood is present And if further action is needed. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Oftentimes when a dog is recovering from having diarrhea, they stop defecating for a a day or two. That is not a big concern. I am so glad to hear that Leo is getting better! Keep up the good work!

If she's stopped having diarrhea, this is a good sign. I hope that she has some medication on board for nausea and vomiting - if not, your vet should be able to prescribe some for you to give at home. Normally, with parvo, the best sign of recovery is when they have gone 24 hours without any vomiting and are eating on their own - until then, you need to continue treatment with fluids and other supportive care.

That is great Tumi is drinking water on his own. If he isn't vomiting, it sounds like he is on the road to recovery. The stools will take time to get better as parvo ruins the lining of the intestinal tract. The important things are to make sure he isn't vomiting and is eating and drinking. In dogs infected with parvo virus, there can be long term health effects from the infection such as chronic gastrointestinal disease. I would recommend going on a sensitive stomach formula and adding in a probiotic to see if this helps. As always, check the stool for intestinal parasites to make sure a parasite is not the cause.
