My dog had parvo, diarrhea stopped, but no poop. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | neutered | 4 months and 15 days old | 41 lbs

leo has parvo and the vet has been giving him fluids.said he is getting better.he started to eat a little bit of chicken&rice this afternoon.he ate and drank on his own.the thing is his diarrhea stopped last night around 11pm,and he hasn't pooped tdy even after eating some.also ate some this evening and still no poop.current time is 7:45pm.the vet said not to worry too much and just keep pushing liquids.is not pooping dangerous?or is that okay like the vet said? the pic is his last diarrhea.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would agree with your veterinarian. He is likely going to go to the bathroom soon. Oftentimes when a dog is recovering from having diarrhea, they stop defecating for a a day or two. That is not a big concern. I am so glad to hear that Leo is getting better! Keep up the good work!

    The color of the stool does not necessarily tell you if the infection is improving or worsening. Obviously if there is a lot of hemorrhage in the stool this is not a good thing. When treating parvo at home, I want to see resolution of the diarrhea, improvement with hydration and appetite returning. If none of these things occur or the infection worsens, the prognosis is not good for at home treatment and hospitalization is highly recommended. At minimum, you should at least see a veterinarian and obtain antibiotics and fluids so you can do the proper treatments at home. I hope this helps and that Leo gets better soon! Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Romeo. You can see a period of not pooping after having diarrhea, so this can be normal. I wouldn't be too worried about it as he's otherwise normal. I would take him for a couple of walks a day, as this can stimulate pooping, and make sure he drinks plenty of water. I hope this helps!

It's not uncommon for a dog not to poop for a day or two after they have had diarrhea. I wouldn't get too worried about Daphne just yet, and it's good that the diarrhea has stopped, she's well hydrated, and is eating. Just keep an eye on her, and if she doesn't poop in another 24-48 hours, then I would be worried and have her seen by vet. Hopefully, however, she will come right in another day :-)

My senior dog had diarrhea, now no poop for 24 hours. Vet visit?
Typically after dogs have diarrhea they will not defecate for a few days. If he is straining to go or he still has diarrhea I would recommend a veterinarian. It is never a bad idea to take Moko in to have the veterinarian perform a rectal and make sure there is no cause for concern but it is fine to wait another day. Your veterinarian can check his stool sample for intestinal parasites, dispense a prescription bland diet and even medication to help with his diarrhea. Labrador's stool not normal after parvo. Why is he pooping so much?

In dogs infected with parvo virus, there can be long term health effects from the infection such as chronic gastrointestinal disease. I would recommend going on a sensitive stomach formula and adding in a probiotic to see if this helps. As always, check the stool for intestinal parasites to make sure a parasite is not the cause. I am very sorry to hear that Lelani has been so unwell. It sounds as though she is on a great treatment Plan. It can be normal for some constipation to follow a gastrointestinal upset. I would continue to monitor her at home for a few hours. If by the end of the day she still hasn't had a bowel movement, or if she seems in pain or lethargic I Would take her back into the veterinarian. The concern is for a foegein body obstruction. But because she seems happy and active it is less likely.

Puppy recovering from parvo: Is fatigue, pain, and no poop normal?
I'm glad to hear that Ruger is recovering! Yes, it's normal for him to still be tired and sleepy at this point - he's been very sick for several days, and it will take time for him to get his energy back. It's very common for puppies to not have a bowel movement for a few days when they haven't been eating - if nothing is going in, then there's nothing there to come out :) Even though he's eating again now, it will take 2-3 days for any poop to be formed - so I wouldn't worry about this at all. He will poop when he's ready. The yelping means that his stomach is probably still a bit sore - this is to be expected, given the severity of his illness. It may take several more days for him to be completely back to normal, so be patient and give him time to recover.

My dog has parvo. Diarrhea stopped, but she's still vomiting. Is she recovering?
If she's stopped having diarrhea, this is a good sign. I hope that she has some medication on board for nausea and vomiting - if not, your vet should be able to prescribe some for you to give at home. Normally, with parvo, the best sign of recovery is when they have gone 24 hours without any vomiting and are eating on their own - until then, you need to continue treatment with fluids and other supportive care.
