My dog has nosebleeds and snotty nose. Vet suggests MRI, but it's too costly

The big question is the nasal discharge, especially the bloody one is it from one nostril or is it from both? If it is from one then I highly recommend going for advanced imaging of Max's nose. I think metacam if there aren' t any controindications will help but it needs to be given with food or after food . Is the discharge bilateral ? I would also ask to have a swab sent off to the lab for culture and sensitivity and if an x ray if his chest has been taken.

This definitely sounds concerning, but without knowing all of the results of the tests that have already been performed it's difficult to make recommendations about what to do next. Based on your description I'd be concerned about an infectious disease or cancer, but I'm assuming many diseases have already been ruled out if Gato has seen four veterinarians. If Gato has not been to see an internal medicine specialist I would recommend asking your regular veterinarian about a referral. You could also request a consultation with one of our experts and we might be able to give better information after seeing diagnostic test results.

Nose bleeds that are persistent in an older dog are highly suspicious of cancer or a fungal infection. Trauma to the nose is also possible, but unlikely to result in chronic bleeding episodes. I am so sorry but Bubbalina needs to be seen by your vet right away for testing (Bloodwork +.- radiographs). If cancer is present, then steroids may be recommended to try and slow down the progression and also supportive care can be provided to Bubbalina to hopefully make her more comfortable. I am so sorry to hear about Chyna. Your vet may have some recommendations for palliative care for Chyna, which might include a steroid such as prednisone to shrink the size of the tumor (unfortunately this is usually a temporary effect so won't last forever). This may help with the bleeding. Other medications they may consider could include a drug called Cerenia which can sometimes decrease inflammation and help with sneezing in some cases. To help with bleeding the vet may recommend nasal drops with neosynephrine which may help constrict blood vessels, or a chinese herb called Yunnan Baiyao which can help with bleeding problems.

I think you need to get a second opinion from another vet, preferably one who has a rhinoscope and can actually look into your dog's upper respiratory passages. By examining the nasal passages with a rhinoscope one will be able to see whether there is a tumor present or more plant debris or foreign material that may need to be removed and so stop the constant infections and bleeding. Your vet may be able to refer you to a relevant clinic.

Poor Wrigley. My first thought is a clotting disorder. If this has not been investigated I would recommend having this checked. Also she should be checked for fungal diseases such as blastomycosis (based off of your region). You could also take her to an internal medicine specialist to have them evaluate her. A CT would be recommended if all of these tests come back normal. They would be looking for a defect or mass in her sinuses. I hope you get some answers for her.
