Dog's nose bleeds on antibiotics for plant debris. What should I do?

Antibiotics are very important medications and should not be used without a confirmed diagnosis of a bacterial infection which is likely to be sensitive to them and they should never be used randomly. This is very important as I am afraid this could either be a nasal cancer or possibly a severe nasal fungal infection. A CT scan helps to distinguish these conditions and a biopsy will help confirm it. Rhinoscopy is needed in some cases to better visualize the nasal cavity after the CT scan is done. It's true that fungal infections can be a cause of nosebleeds in dogs, but they can also be caused by nasal tumors or even a foreign body such as a blade of grass or other plant material. Since there has been no improvement in four months with antifungals, I would be concerned that something else may be causing the bleeding. I would suggest having a rhinoscopy done to visualize the inside of the nasal cavity and take biopsies and culture samples of the tissue there to determine if the bleeding is really caused by a fungal infection or some other problem.

Oh my! Poor baby. I had another case similar to this and I took a piece of the tissue and sent it in for biopsy and also a bacterial and fungal culture. I would talk to your vet about doing this. I think this is the first step. You can also look up the herb yunnan bai Yao and talk to your vet about this to help control the bleeding. If it is a tumor, there isn’t much you can do about it unless you want to go see a specialist. A specialist could potentially remove it to help him feel better. This could be a fungal infection or an antibiotic resistant bacterial infection. If bacterial and fungal cultures have not yet been performed, I would recommend that you request them. I am sorry that she is having this problem and I am sure you are worried. Nasal discharge with blood can be a sign of infection, cancer, or possibly a bleeding disorder. If the antibiotics do no resolve the problem then your vet will need to do some diagnostic tests to help determine the cause. Your vet can run blood-work, take nasal x-rays, and/or rhinoscopy to see if a diagnosis can be found. I wish I could tell you the cause but am not able to without more information from tests. The bump on the roof of her mouth may not be related but you should monitor it and have your vet take a look at it. Try not to worry as it could definitely just be an infection.
