My dog sneezed blood. Vet suggests imaging, but I fear anesthesia.

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 5 months old | 135 lbs

I have a video. We have taken to a vet n said he needs advance imaging of the nose. My husband doesnt want to give the dog anstasia or knocked out. Vet gave me antibiotic n prednisone. It started out,one day he sneezed n blood all over the place. He sneezed before but never a bloody nose. My husband said when he sneezed,he hit his nose on the ground n he does have a little cut on inside of nose. I dont think its allergies. Everytime we bring to vets,he breaths fine

The big question is the nasal discharge, especially the bloody one is it from one nostril or is it from both? If it is from one then I highly recommend going for advanced imaging of Max's nose. If it is both and the antibiotics and prednisone don't help then I would recommend further imaging. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

This is very important as I am afraid this could either be a nasal cancer or possibly a severe nasal fungal infection. A CT scan helps to distinguish these conditions and a biopsy will help confirm it. Rhinoscopy is needed in some cases to better visualize the nasal cavity after the CT scan is done. My dog is sneezing blood after dog park. Should I be worried?

I would definitely be concerned about the bloody nose. Since he does frequent the dog park, infections such as bordetella, influenza, or even contagious nasal mites are possible. A nasal foreign body is also possible. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Antibiotics may be recommended. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Dog's nose bleeds on antibiotics for plant debris. What should I do?

I think you need to get a second opinion from another vet, preferably one who has a rhinoscope and can actually look into your dog's upper respiratory passages. By examining the nasal passages with a rhinoscope one will be able to see whether there is a tumor present or more plant debris or foreign material that may need to be removed and so stop the constant infections and bleeding. Your vet may be able to refer you to a relevant clinic.

My dog has bloody snot, x-rays and blood work clear. What now?

Poor Tersk! Nasal discharge with blood is always very concerning in dogs, and is not likely to be due to a simple cold. I would be concerned about a possible nasal tumor, a fungal infection, or even a foreign body such as a foxtail or a blade of grass stuck in the nasal cavity. These problems generally do not show up on x-rays or blood work, so I agree with your veterinarian - rhinoscopy would be the next step to try and get a diagnosis.

My dog sneezes blood after antibiotics failed. Is it aspergillosis?

Poor Mazie! A fungal infection like aspergillosis is certainly one possible cause of persistent sneezing and nosebleeds that are not resolved with antibiotics. Other possibilities would include a nasal foreign body, or a nasal tumor. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about the next steps from here to try and get a diagnosis. In many cases, referral to a specialist for rhinoscopy and a CT scan is needed to determine the problem.

My dog is sneezing blood after eye removal. Is this normal for my pet?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I agree with your veterinarian. Sometimes bleeding can be noticed from the nostril in the same side as the removed eye. The reason is that there is some connection in between both structures through the nasolacrimal duct. This should improve within days of surgery. Good luck and have a great day!

My dog sneezes constantly with a whistling nose, vet found nothing.

If you haven't already tried it I would recommend a trial of antibiotics and antihistamines to rule out allergies and infection in the nose. If you have already done this then it may be time to refer to an internal medicine specialist since your vet has already done a thorough work up and could not determine the cause of the problem. The specialist could do a CT scan of the head/nose or a scope of the nose (where they look up the nose with a special camera) to see what exactly is going on.
