Why does my dog's nose run clear liquid during walks? Is it normal?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Not sure exactly what is going on from your description. I'm assuming that there is some clear discharge coming from the nose. This could be many things including irritation from something in the air, allergens, the beginning of an upper respiratory infection, or even a foreign body in the nasal passage ways. I would advise that if it continues or starts to thicken or turn green/yellow, or other signs develop like coughing, etc you need to see your veterinarian and let them evaluate Chewie. They can do a physical exam and advise some tests if needed to diagnose what is going on depending on if it's just one nostril or both. Blood work, x-rays, or other tests may be advised. Once a diagnosis is made treatment can be recommended. Good luck with Chewie.

Poor Daisy. If the discharge is just clear and not yellow or green, then this is likely a sign of allergic rhinitis. Something in the environment is causing her to have an allergic inflammatory response in her nasal passages. However, as long as the discharge remains clear she may get over this on her own over the next few weeks. Monitor her daily for any changes and have her seen by your veterinarian if things get worse (sneezing, infection type discharge, decreased appetite, etc). But hopefully she won't need to be seen and she improves on her own.

I am sorry Snoopy is having this issue. It definitely can be a cold but there are other things it can be. It can be allergies or if it is one nostril that there is discharge it can be a growth. I recommend taking Snoopy to the veterinarian and having them listen to her to make sure there is nothing settled in her lungs and it is just an upper respiratory issue. You spelled it just right! The discharge does look like it's clear, so it could be allergy related like your vet suggested earlier. Seeing if your vet can prescribe a medication to treat allergies may help improve his symptoms. If they continue, or the coughing/discharge worsens, additional examination or an X-ray to check the lungs and chest may be beneficial in determining the problem. Hope max gets feeling better fast!

Having a runny nose after excessive play is normal. There is no need for concern here. The blood vessels in the nose become engorged, causing some leakage of fluid. Occasional sneezing is also normal for pets. Dust can irritate the nasal passage. I would recommend dusting more and using Heppa filters with your vaccuum to eliminate a lot of the dust and dust mites that are likely in the environment.
