Why is my dog's nose running clear liquid? When should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 22 lbs

I Noticed my dog sitting on our chair. And something for every five minutes keeps drooping in his nose. It's not blood but. is there any sign what is going on? or what should i do to cure this

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Not sure exactly what is going on from your description. I'm assuming that there is some clear discharge coming from the nose. This could be many things including irritation from something in the air, allergens, the beginning of an upper respiratory infection, or even a foreign body in the nasal passage ways. I would advise that if it continues or starts to thicken or turn green/yellow, or other signs develop like coughing, etc you need to see your veterinarian and let them evaluate Chewie. They can do a physical exam and advise some tests if needed to diagnose what is going on depending on if it's just one nostril or both. Blood work, x-rays, or other tests may be advised. Once a diagnosis is made treatment can be recommended. Good luck with Chewie.

If the discharge from the nose is clear and it's only occurring during walks it's probably more related to a mild allergy or exposure to cooler air. As long as it's only happening rarely and the discharge is clear I wouldn't be concerned. If the discharge become frequent, becomes yellow/green or mucousy, or Ziggy develops any other signs of illness like coughing or sneezing I would have him evaluated by your veterinarian.

My dog has clear nose discharge and snores terribly. Is it a cold?

I am sorry Snoopy is having this issue. It definitely can be a cold but there are other things it can be. It can be allergies or if it is one nostril that there is discharge it can be a growth. I recommend taking Snoopy to the veterinarian and having them listen to her to make sure there is nothing settled in her lungs and it is just an upper respiratory issue. My puppy's nose is runny with clear, watery discharge. What to do?

Poor Daisy. If the discharge is just clear and not yellow or green, then this is likely a sign of allergic rhinitis. Something in the environment is causing her to have an allergic inflammatory response in her nasal passages. However, as long as the discharge remains clear she may get over this on her own over the next few weeks. Monitor her daily for any changes and have her seen by your veterinarian if things get worse (sneezing, infection type discharge, decreased appetite, etc). But hopefully she won't need to be seen and she improves on her own.

This is usually treated with antibiotics. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. My old dog has itchy nose, sneezing, clear discharge. What to do?

Handsome boy! He may have allergies from spring pollen or a mild cold. You can give Benadryl to reduce the nasal discharge and itching. There is a section on this website with information and dosages of common over the counter medications that are safe for dogs. if he stops eating, the discharge gets green or he's very lethargic then I would recommend a veterinary exam.
