My dog has a nose infection. Is it an emergency or can I wait?

This most certainly could be an infection, especially if it has been a week since the scratch and it looks like this. If it is bothering Tigre, she may be rubbing her nose on the floor making it much worse. I would recommend having this examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She may need an oral and topical antibiotic for treatment. Hi, From what described above as superficial scratch and no active bleeding, which was cleaned and locally treated with antibiotic it possible it can wait for a few days. But if any if these signs present: bleeding, bothering him and he start scratching/ licking, redness, foul smell or discharge please take him to the vet earlier. In the meantime keep the area clean and you can continue with the antibiotic ointment under supervision to make sure he is not licking it due to the location which makes it easy for the dog to lick. This is not an emergency but I would have your veterinarian look at it tomorrow. With the pictures it is hard to say what it is and does need to be evaluated in person. It is not uncommon for dogs to traumatize the top of their nose when they are in a kennel or cage and trying to get out. They usually rub a sore on the wire part of the cage. If the wound does not seem to be bothering her, you may be okay waiting to see her regular veterinarian. If she seems uncomfortable or the wound/rash are worsening or spreading, then it may be best to get her in somewhere sooner. If you start to notice that the wound looks infected (pus coming from it), I would bring Wendy in sooner because the worse it gets, the longer it will take to heal. If you have an E-collar (the lamp shade looking device) at home, I would put that on her in the meantime to prevent her from further damaging the area. Hope Wendy heals quickly!

This looks like a mild skin infection or irritation from an insect bite or injury. You can wash it with antibacterial soap, rinse it well and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. As long as there are no other spots this should heal fine. The overlying skin may come off and then the pinker skin may be showing until the fur grows back in which could take a month or so. Poor Henry! While this may be caused by an upper respiratory infection from having an endotracheal tube placed for surgery to keep his airways open to breathe, it may be unrelated. Henry may have kennel cough, or even something more serious like pneumonia. Unfortunately, these conditions require treatment with antibiotics, which are likely different from the ones he may have been given post surgery. If Henry is eating and playing normally, and just overall being his normal self, it is likely okay to wait until tomorrow morning to have him seen. Because of Henry’s breed, and him having a shortened airway, I do recommend that he is seen by an emergency vet if you are concerned that he is unable to breathe properly. This is an emergency in all dogs, but in breeds like pugs, bulldogs, etc it is important to have them stabilized as soon as possible. I’m happy to answer any addition questions you may have!

I see you posted a priority question about this. I assume you got that answer, but to give you a summary, you don't need to rush Bentley into an ER vet now if he's eating, drinking, isn't lethargic, and his ear does not appear to be in a lot of pain. I hope this helps.
