My dog has a fleshy growth between nose and mouth. Should I worry?

Hi Shay! Any growth is concerning, but it's not a medical emergency. You don't have to rush her into the vet tonight. I would make an appointment during normal business hours in the next couple of days to have it checked out, however. I hope this helps!

Either way, this is likely to resolve with local treatment if the infection is confirmed. I think it would be ok to wait until next week as long as it starts resolving and healing on its own as sometimes these do resolve again if that is what it is. If this continues to worsen or progresses or it is not healing, it would be indicated to have him seen sooner. Good luck and best wishes!

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the pictures you have provided, I would suspect this to be a skin tumor. It looks to be benign and similar to what we call a sebaceous adenoma. It may have been much smaller previously and if it was bumped or traumatized may have grown in size due to inflammation. If this is bleeding and does not go down in size, I would suggest having it removed. Many of these can be frozen off with cryo treatment that many vet clinics provide as a service. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Is that supposed to be the same growth in both photos? The growth if the first photo looks suspicious for a malignant tumor. The tissue around the mass is swollen and the mass itself is raised and ulcerated; both can be signs of a malignancy. I cannot tell you for sure though just by looking at a photo. The second photo looks like a benign wart. In general, any new lumps/bumps should be examined by your vet. The first photo looks worrisome and I think you should have it checked in the next few days.

That is probably not an emergency situation but the nasal planum (from your description) seems inflamed and probably infected. A veterinary check up is needed as soon as the vets are available, but if the swelling tends to increase or spread I would recommend an immediate consultation. A picture would definitively help me to understand better the underlying cause of it. Hello. It is always difficult to evaluate tissue abnormalities just based on a picture. This could be a benign tissue hyperplasia, or it may be more serious like the beginning of an oral carcinoma. If I understand correctly, you want to know if this can wait until February, but I really do not feel that is a good idea. I would have her mouth & gums evaluated now, & if your vet decides to wait until the teeth are cleaned ( which will be done under general anesthesia ), that might be a good time to get a biopsy. Hello. I would not be too worried, I just would like to have this checked out as soon as possible. Oral lesions have a way of sneaking up on you, so I am glad you were so diligent in finding this. It is quite easy to determine if this is a bad situation by removing a small piece of tissue & having a pathologist examine the cells under a microscope. Some oral lesions can look quite benign but can turn out to be very worrisome, but lets not jump the gun. You are doing the right thing not waiting months to have it looked at.
