Why is my dog licking and sneezing like something is bothering her?

Cigarette smoke is a respiratory irritant to dogs, so that could be why Daisy is sneezing more when she is outside with you. In the future, I would avoid having her with you when you are smoking, keep her indoors. Allergies could also be playing a part in her sneezing, and Daisy could be allergic to environmental allergies and cleaners in the home. I recommend having her seen by a vet for blood tests to diagnose if she does have allergies, and your vet can prescribe medications to help her symptoms.

Excessive sneezing like this could be a sign of foreign material in the nasal cavity (sometimes a piece of fluff or plant material can get stuck), or potentially a nasal polyp, tumor or infection. She could have a grass seed stuck in her nose, or it may have been stuck and moved on but caused irritation. The nose is biggeer than you think so often the endoscope is needed to have a good look and temive anything stuck. I would make her a appointment at the vet as it will likely come to that. If discharge is clear it couldnt have been stuck long as usually foreign mayerial causes an infection. If you want to try something first yku could get a syringe of saline (boil kettle, let cool add a little salt) and gently flush her nose. Do it slowly so that she does not choke on the water, she will swallow it. She may not tolerate this and if not do not persist as you could hurt her. If she lets you this may dislodge what is stuck or give the cavity a good rinse. If this doesnt resolve the issue it is time for the vet.

Poor Ptolemy! Because he has been sneezing all day, I would give your vet a call. The vet may recommend an OTC antihistamine for him to take to help with his symptoms. Poor Daisy! She is an older girl, and unfortunately this sneezing with blood in her snot could be due to a malignant growth (cancer) in her nasal cavity. It could also be due to a foreign body, fungal infection, or respiratory infection. Because this has been ongoing for a while, it's best that Daisy is seen by a vet either today or tomorrow. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays, and may look up her nasal cavity with an endoscope to diagnose what is causing her symptoms. Once a cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment options with you.
