Why is my dog sneezing so much, especially around smoke or cleaning?

Poor Daisy! She is an older girl, and unfortunately this sneezing with blood in her snot could be due to a malignant growth (cancer) in her nasal cavity. It could also be due to a foreign body, fungal infection, or respiratory infection. Because this has been ongoing for a while, it's best that Daisy is seen by a vet either today or tomorrow. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays, and may look up her nasal cavity with an endoscope to diagnose what is causing her symptoms. Once a cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment options with you.

Aww, Nikko is such a cutie! I’m sorry he’s having some sneezing fits lately. Allergies or infections like kennel cough can set them off. So can being near cigarette or marijuana smoke, incense, candles, or having something small (blade of grass/bug) stuck up the nostril. There is not much you can do at home. If it’s non-stop, or happening frequently for more than 24 hours, see your vet to he’ll narrow down the causes and get recommendations for treatment. Best of luck to you and Nikko!

I'm wondering if Daisy might be reverse sneezing when she's making this new noise. A reverse sneeze and a sneeze can have similar causes - anything that irritates the nose and throat including allergens, upper respiratory infections, nasal foreign material like pieces of grass or even parasites can all cause sneezing and reverse sneezing. I usually don't get too concerned about either one unless there is also nasal discharge or the sneezing/reverse sneezing is occuring frequently enough that it seems to be affecting the pet's ability to rest. If so I think that your best bet is to see a vet unfortunately.

Hello, sorry to hear about Dove. Some causes of sneezing can include allergies, especially if this happens after going outside. Most often this is self limiting and may resolve on its own. Other things you may be noticing is something called reverse sneezing syndrome. This is also most often self limiting and resolved on its owner with some time. However, I would recommend having Dove evaluated to ensure there is nothing stuck in her nose. She may also get medications to control any potential allergies. Monitor for any signs of nasal or ocular discharge in the meantime and notify your veterinarian if you note any. Hope this helps and best of luck!!

It is possible something has irritated Sista's nose or nasal cavities, or she has something irritating in her mouth or throat. Illness, obstructions, respiratory issues, allergen irritation, etc can all be possible causes. If she is pawing at her face, can't stop sneezing, or is having trouble breathing, seeking veterinary care in person immediately is best.

Causes of sneezing can include upper respiratory infection, inflammation of the nasal passages (rhinitis), irritants in the environment such as dust or cleaners, foreign material in the nose, such as a piece of grass or dirt, or even cancer. If the sneezing is happening multiple times a day, I recommend having Nonnie evaluated by your veterinarian at their next available appointment. Max could be sneezing for several reasons and the most common are infection or allergies. A foreign object stuck in the nose, fungal infection or cancer can also cause dogs to sneeze. If his sneezing is continuing beyond a week, I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian. The doctor will perform a physical exam and should be able to get a better idea of what is going on. You can use a humidifier, an air filter and make sure that the filter in your furnace is changed on a scheduled basis to help improve air quality and may help with the sneezing.
