Why does my active dog's leg shake when sleeping or standing?

So your dog has arthritis in the right hip and a subluxation in the left hip. He may be shaking due to pain from these problems, and he may need pain medications. Do NOT give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Take him into the vet to get pain medications. Best of luck.

Shaking or quivering of a leg can be caused by so many things, including anxiety, pain, neurologic disease, muscular disease, bone disease, etc. I would recommend that Abbie be checked out by a vet. After thorough orthopedic and neurologic exams, the vet may get a better idea of what could be causing the issues. X-rays may be helpful for evaluated the bones and joints of the affected limb. Once your vet has a better idea of what could be the cause, then a medication trial can be used to see if it help with the shaking leg.

I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Most likely it is not related to anything and is only incidental. However, this can only be confirmed after a physical exam by your veterinarian. It sounds like the leg may be pretty painful if he's limping and won't bear weight on it (or let you touch it). Possible causes can include anything from a soft tissue or bone injury (such as a sprain or break), something stuck in the foot or between the toes, tumors or growths affecting the bones or joints, or even a nerve issue causing the leg to not work properly. I would have Rambo examined by your vet ASAP, especially if he is very painful and can't walk on the leg.

That is quite strange! It coudl be from anxiety or a muscle spasm. It could also be from an injury but I would expect he would be limping on it as well. I would try to take a video of it and show your vet when you go in for your next visit. You could try benadryl to see if this calms his nerves a little but it may not help. If it gets worse, you may want to have your vet take a look at it sooner than his next check up.
