Why is my Doberman puppy's leg shaking? What's the cause and how to stop it?

If you have done a thorough check of his leg and are finding nothing wrong with Chief and he is walking on the leg just fine, I would monitor this for now. I have seen this in quite a few puppies and when I examined the puppy further, I found nothing wrong and it resolved on its own. If Chief begins to show signs of pain / discomfort, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It looks like Chief is about 12 weeks of age, so at this age he still needs to go through the remainder of his puppy vaccinations. At his next vaccination appointment, I would discuss this further with the examining veterinarian. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. So your dog has arthritis in the right hip and a subluxation in the left hip. He may be shaking due to pain from these problems, and he may need pain medications. Do NOT give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Take him into the vet to get pain medications. Best of luck.

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Bentley's care today! Lameness and/or possible leg pain and shaking can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Hi Ardian, I would ask your veterinarian about carpal flexural deformity. It is a condition that we can see in young puppies that have normal x-rays. They think it happens because the bones and tendons are growing at different rates, but they are not sure of the cause. The good news is that it seems to resolve in a few weeks and does not cause any long term problems. Some people recommend a diet change, but it has not been proven to make a difference. Most likely it is not related to anything and is only incidental. However, this can only be confirmed after a physical exam by your veterinarian. If it persists or worsens, I would suggest a check up to assess if there is any sign of [elbow dysplasia](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/elbow-dysplasia/), [panosteitis](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/panosteitis/) or other condition/injury, as pain can cause shaking in dogs.

If it doesn't bother Bear or hurt him, no I wouldn't be worried. It could just be muscle spasms. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain, so I would mention to your vet when you see them next. I hope this helps!

Shaking or quivering of a leg can be caused by so many things, including anxiety, pain, neurologic disease, muscular disease, bone disease, etc. I would recommend that Abbie be checked out by a vet. After thorough orthopedic and neurologic exams, the vet may get a better idea of what could be causing the issues. X-rays may be helpful for evaluated the bones and joints of the affected limb. Once your vet has a better idea of what could be the cause, then a medication trial can be used to see if it help with the shaking leg.
