My dog's leg is shaking. What causes it and what should I do?

Although the leg doesn't seem painful by far the most common cause of the shaking you're describing would be a leg injury or arthritis. I would recommend having your vet examine Rook's leg. They might recommend taking an x-ray, especially if Rook is stoic during the exam as well.

Hello. Kasper has evidence of hip dysplasia. It is not severe, but enough to cause your pet some discomfort. We routinely see these type of changes, especially in the larger breed dogs. Treatment includes the use of pain medications, joint supplements, weight loss, & consistent, but easy exercising. Pain meds include NSAIDs such as carprofen, Previcox, Deramax & Meloxicam, additional pain relief such as Tramadol &/or Gabapentin, & joint supplements such as glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate, Adequan injections & ocassionally omega 3 fatty acids. Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Bentley's care today! Lameness and/or possible leg pain and shaking can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Shaking is usually a sign of pain, according to the symptoms I can't be sure where the pain is coming from, possibly from his hips but it could be from somewhere else. I strongly recommend that you take him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated.

It sounds like the leg may be pretty painful if he's limping and won't bear weight on it (or let you touch it). Possible causes can include anything from a soft tissue or bone injury (such as a sprain or break), something stuck in the foot or between the toes, tumors or growths affecting the bones or joints, or even a nerve issue causing the leg to not work properly. I would have Rambo examined by your vet ASAP, especially if he is very painful and can't walk on the leg.

Shaking or quivering of a leg can be caused by so many things, including anxiety, pain, neurologic disease, muscular disease, bone disease, etc. I would recommend that Abbie be checked out by a vet. After thorough orthopedic and neurologic exams, the vet may get a better idea of what could be causing the issues. X-rays may be helpful for evaluated the bones and joints of the affected limb. Once your vet has a better idea of what could be the cause, then a medication trial can be used to see if it help with the shaking leg.

Shaking can be a symptom of many things and if Jake is older, the shaking could be due to weakness if he has lost muscle in his legs. Shaking can definitely be a sign of arthritis and if you do not have him on any joint supplementation or any pain medications, it may be time to consider these. For joint supplements, I recommend Cetyl-M, Cosequin or Dasaquin products. For anti-inflammatories, I would recommend discussing these with your veterinarian to see if Jake indeed needs any pain medications. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
