Why is my Rottweiler's back leg shaking, painful, and he can't stand?

So your dog has arthritis in the right hip and a subluxation in the left hip. He may be shaking due to pain from these problems, and he may need pain medications. Do NOT give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Take him into the vet to get pain medications. Best of luck.

Yes, I would be worried. I don't want to scare you but it is actually very common for Rottweilers to get bone cancer. It will often times start out as an occasional limp but then will rapidly progress to a severe, constant limp. Sometimes you will see a noticeable swelling on the outside of the affected leg. Please take her to your vet for an exam and an x-ray of that leg. It is better to catch this sooner rather than later. If it is not that, the other option is arthritis which can be managed well with medications. Either way she sounds uncomfortable and in some pain so it would be best to find out what is going on. It's hard for me to say what could be going on without examining Oskar and seeing the x-rays. My concern in a Rottweiler that has persistent limping despite anti-inflammatories would be osteosarcoma, a bone cancer. I would recommend discussing additional diagnostics with your vet, including repeat x-rays, and possibly a biopsy or CT scan.

I am afraid that it is not possible to tell you how to cure her condition without being able to know what is exactly going on as therapy is targeted at the specific condition. Possibilities include an issue with her hips, disc herniation, arthritis or other orthopedic conditions. The main thing is that it could also be due to weakness secondary to dehydration just to give you an example. I highly recommend that you consider taking her to a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Although the leg doesn't seem painful by far the most common cause of the shaking you're describing would be a leg injury or arthritis. I would recommend having your vet examine Rook's leg. They might recommend taking an x-ray, especially if Rook is stoic during the exam as well.

Shaking or muscle tremors, difficulty walking and seizures can be a sign of neurologic disease in the brain. There are many infectious and inflammatory diseases that can cause signs like these. Severe liver disease or low blood sugar could also cause neurologic signs. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian if you have not already had Bobby examined. They can check blood work and may recommend testing for some infectious diseases. Often referral to a neurologist for an MRI and sampling spinal fluid is necessary to get a diagnosis, but there may be some treatments your veterinarian could recommend before more testing.

After thorough orthopedic and neurologic exams, the vet may get a better idea of what could be causing the issues. X-rays may be helpful for evaluated the bones and joints of the affected limb. Once your vet has a better idea of what could be the cause, then a medication trial can be used to see if it help with the shaking leg.
