My dog ate garlic steak fat. Should I worry about garlic toxicity?

This is likely not enough garlic to pose a serious risk of toxicity. At worst, you may see some mild stomach upset. Withhold food for 24 hours and feed a bland diet in small, frequent amount until symptoms resolve.

For this small amount of onion, I think Nova will be just fine. Larger amounts of onion or garlic can cause damage to her red blood cells. If you notice any concerning symptoms, you should have her examined by your vet.

Though more toxic in cats we can see symptoms in dogs from onions and garlic. Most commonly though we will see vomiting and diarrhea. Feed this for the next 3-5 days and then transition back to the normal diet. If only a small piece was ingested there was likely not enough garlic to cause any problems. 1/2 of a tsp of garlic powder or 2 whole garlic cloves would potentially be toxic if ingested, so if you think that it is possible that the spaghetti had that amount in the bowl you should see an emergency veterinarian. Otherwise there is no concern. Garlic and garlic powder tend to be more toxic if ingested consistently over a long period of time; it generally takes a lot to cause toxicity if it is a one time ingestion.

I'm sorry to hear that Chief got into trouble today! The amount of garlic you are describing should not cause toxicity for a dog as big as Chief. Just keep an eye on him for any tummy upset (vomiting, diarrhea, off his food) or lethargy, and if these occur have him seen by your veterinarian.

However, garlic and butter both can affect her in different ways, especially by causing gastrointestinal symptoms like the vomiting. Also, begonias are very toxic to dogs sometimes resulting in kidney failure so if she ate any, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
