My dog ate ground meat with garlic and pepper. Is it toxic for him?

  A one time ingestion of a small amount of garlic will likely pose no risk of serious toxicity. You may see some gastrointestinal upset (vomiting and diarrhea) though.
  This can usually be managed with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve.
  Monitor for protracted GI upset, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. See your veterinarian for an exam if any of these symptoms develop.

  If it wasn't a big quantity of garlic, he isn't in any danger. If you don't have hydrogen peroxide you need to take him to the vet, they will give him an injection that will make him throw up within minutes.

  Hello, and thanks for your question. The toxic effects of garlic are dose-dependent, so if it was just a small amount, Bean will probably be fine. If you're worried, I recommend having him seen by your vet to check a CBC, which looks at his red and white blood cell values. Garlic can cause red blood cell damage, so this will help ensure that his numbers are still ok.

  The small amount of garlic present on the chicken shouldn't be enough to cause any anemia problems. If he is not used to getting chicken he may have some digestive upset, but otherwise, I don't think he'll have any problem. Do be sure to keep an eye on him just in case and get him to the vet right away if he develops diarrhea, vomiting, loses his appetite or becomes lethargic.
