My dog's eyes are red and irritated from sawdust. Should I worry?

It is likely that some shampoo, air from the dryer, or even small bits of hair from trimming got in your dog's eye and caused irritation. You can try to rinse your dog's eye gently with saline solution (like you use for contacts). However, there could be a scratch on your dog's eye (the cornea) as well. If it doesn't look better in 24 hours, see your veterinarian for testing to see if there is a scratch on your dog's eye and get appropriate medication.

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I am sorry to hear this! His eye does look very irritated- and the area around his eye that has a 'cobblestone' appearance suggests that he has some chronic irritation. I would want to rule out a few things that cause these signs including stray eyelashes that are 'ingrown', eyelid abnormalities, allergies and mites. The good news is that most of these things can be treated successfully! I would bring him in and have a few eye tests done and have them closely examined with magnification (sometimes an ophthalmologist is recommended) and see what kind of treatment plan is needed. Until you can bring him in, over the counter lubricating eye drops may bring some short term relief. I hope this helps!

This could be mild irritation or conjunctivitis. You can try to flush out with some eye irrigating solution but if it is not improving then I would have your vet look at him as he will likely needs some antibiotic eye drops. I hope this helps.

If he is pawing at it or squinting, then he should be seen by your veterinarian. Potential causes include infection, injury or even allergies. If he is pawing or rubbing at it, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the doctor.

Ouch! This looks pretty irritated now. Ada could be having an allergic reaction to something, have chronic allergies that are starting for the season, or even have an issue with her immune system. I would recommend putting and e-collar (cone) on her tonight so that she can't rub her face and damage her eye and schedule an appointment for tomorrow with her regular vet. It could be secondary to an infection, allergy, or irritant. You could try an eye lubricant, such as GenTeal drops, and see if that helps. Otherwise, he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat.
