My dog has red eyes and yellow discharge after beach. Sand irritation or conjunctivitis?

It could be secondary to an infection, allergy, or irritant. You could try an eye lubricant, such as GenTeal drops, and see if that helps. Otherwise, he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat.

You can try benadryl twice a day (see link below) and flush it with eye irrigating solution but I am afraid that she will need some prescription eye drops from a vet. If she isn't improved or worsens within 12-24 hours, I would have your vet look at her. Thanks for using PetCoach. The brown tear staining is usually the result of a small infection, though if it was a sandy beach, the brown sand could also be part of it. Clean the area gently with a warm wet cloth. Usually I recommend treating with a treat, wipe, or medication containing a small amount tylosin. For example, here in US the one I use is Occubright tear stain remover (https://ocubright.com/) , though there are other supplements that may work well. I recommend that you have them evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Poor Travis! I would try to flush out his eye with some lukewarm water. If that doesn't help or he still looks droopy afterwards, I would take him into a vet right away. The sand could scratch his cornea, leading to infection and potentially an ulcer, and the sand will need to be removed and his eye treated.

I am sorry to hear this! His eye does look very irritated- and the area around his eye that has a 'cobblestone' appearance suggests that he has some chronic irritation. I would want to rule out a few things that cause these signs including stray eyelashes that are 'ingrown', eyelid abnormalities, allergies and mites. The good news is that most of these things can be treated successfully! I would bring him in and have a few eye tests done and have them closely examined with magnification (sometimes an ophthalmologist is recommended) and see what kind of treatment plan is needed. Until you can bring him in, over the counter lubricating eye drops may bring some short term relief. I hope this helps!

Those eyes look pretty irritated, and I would be concerned there is a scratch or injury/reaction to the eye from the dust. I would try to keep the eyes cleaned and clear, and if they continued to swell or don't improve, seek veterinary care to treat any allergic reactions or injuries.
