My dog's eye has strong glue, blocking vision. What should I do?

No....you absolutely can not glue this shut. In order to close this, all of the tear producing structures and the rim of the eyelids have to be surgically cut back until you can just see the skin Then the skin edges are sewn together. . It does not appear from the photo that any of that tissue was removed. This will not seal or close on its own. It will remain open and it will continue to produce tears and remain moist. Ouch, poor Halie! A red lesion on the eye affected by glaucoma could indicate that her eye pressures have increased to such a level that the eye has ruptured. Please take Halie to an ER vet immediately to assess her condition, as this can be extremely painful. Aside from putting an Elizabethan/cone collar on her to prevent further injury, there isn't anything else that you can do at home at this point.

Hello, depending on what caused the purulent material on her eye, what you are seeing now may be consistent with scar tissue. Now, if she is having any discharge, if the normal white part of the eye (sclera) is red, or if she has bright red conjunctiva, then she should definitely be evaluated by a veterinarian. I would not recommend putting anything else into her eye until you have your veterinarian evaluate her. If she has an ulcer or an infection, putting the wrong medications in her eye may lead to a worsening condition and even the loss of her eye. I would definitely have her seen by your veterinarian if you are concerned she could be in pain or if you think her eye is not looking any better by tomorrow. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Olini needs to see a vet as soon as possible. Potential causes for the sudden change that you see in the eye include severe conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer or abrasion, glaucoma, uveitis, and trauma. I can't quite tell from the picture, but it may be proptosed ("popped out"). If you have an emergency vet clinic open near by, this would be a case that I would advise seeking emergency care.

Tilt your dog's head back and hold open the eyelid with your thumb and forefinger or middle finger. Flush the eye for 10 to 15 minutes using cool water, or preferably a sterile saline eyewash or artificial tears. To flush the eye, hold the bottle of saline solution/artificial tears directly above the eye and squirt a gentle but steady stream of fluid into the eye. Or you can soak a wad of cotton in the water/solution and squeeze it into the eye repeatedly. If the foreign body cannot be removed by irrigation, seek veterinary attention.

I am so sorry to hear about your pup. I would highly recommend a trip to the vet today (emergency vet if yours is not open) to ensure no damage was done to the cornea that requires treatment, as vinegar is an acid and could be very irritating. Her eye is likely quite painful as well and they can prescribe medication to help with the discomfort.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Oliver! Did they diagnosis him with glaucoma? If yes that is very painful and usually results in permanent blindness. You can ask your Vet for eye drops to lower the pressure in his eyes (for comfort purposes until surgery) and oral pain medications. You can also have your Vet refer you to a Veterinary ophthalmologist for a second opinion. I wish you and Oliver the best!
