My dog's eye removed, eyelid won't close. Can I glue it shut myself?

I would recommend calling the veterinarian that performed the surgery and discussing this with them. Typically when the eye is removed the lids are sewn shut. If Rarzi does not have an elizabethan collar on they I recommend getting one from your local pet store until you can get him to a veterinarian. I would recommend taking your dog to the vet as soon as possible. He will likely need to be sedated and have the glue surgically extracted/removed. Depending on the seriousness and damage the glue has done to the eye, the globe may also need to be removed. I’m sorry this is happened. I hope this helps. Best of luck.

You can try to keep her as quiet as possible until you can have her evaluated by a veterinarian to avoid the injury getting worse. Poor Hoodie! Good on you for taking him into the vet when he got this eye injury, as any eye problem is an emergency. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what the best course of treatment is for him unfortunately, but I would listen to your vet's recommendations. I'm not sure if he's developed an ulcer from this injury, but sewing the eye shut is done in cases of non-healing injuries to give it extra protection to allow it to heal. There is no guarantee in any aspect of medicine, and your vet will be giving you the best option to help it heal. It actually sounds like Oso could have facial nerve paralysis on that side that is making him unable to close his eyelid. The third eyelid is controlled by a different nerve so dogs with facial nerve paralysis will use the third eyelid to protect the eye. Facial nerve paralysis can be caused by a severe ear infection, or some neurologic diseases. I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian to see if this is a possibility. You may want to try applying an artificial tear ointment to keep his eye lubricated until you can see your vet

Hello. I am so sorry for this medical error happening to your dog. Yes, the center part of the wound, called an eschar, will slough off. This will heal, but it may take several months to do so. We do try to sometimes close these as they advance just to protect the underlying healing tissue. But at this point in time, I do not think the wound can be closed without doing extensive grafting. There are multiple techniques for addressing such an huge wound. If you are at all unsure of your veterinarians ability to handle such a wound, you might want to ask for a referral to a large surgical center or even consider the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. Unfortunately Tysonlee needs to see a veterinarian. This wound needs to be debrided and cleaned up and then properly closed. It has been too long to just glue the wound or close it without proper care before hand.
