Dog's bulging eye needs surgery. How to ease discomfort until then?

Yes the eye could be painful. Most dogs do great after eye removal and he may become perkier afterwards. You are the one that sees him everyday and are the best one to evaluate his quality of life. Given your description, I would absolutely have Copper seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye) is incredibly painful and requires emergency treatment. Your veterinarian will be able to examine Copper and measure the pressures inside his eyes to determine what sort of therapy he needs. If addressed quickly, there is a chance of regaining vision. If left untreated, Copper will become irreversibly blind. I hope this is helpful!

It appears that there is a severe corneal ulcer on the left eye but hard to say for sure for the right eye. The ulcer appears to be a melting ulcer, which is quite severe. These eyes need the care of an eye specialist and further treatment. Many times, drops alone won't be enough to treat the eye. I would consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.

I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with Scooter. Glaucoma is a horrible condition but it has to be diagnosed carefully. Usually it is suspected based on signs such as enlarged hard eyes, and then confirmed with a special pen that checks the pressure. It is really important with glaucoma to check the back of the eye with an ophthalmoacope to see if the retina is damaged. I would urge you not to try and treat this yourself. Number 1 it may not be glaucoma and you could do damage by giving the wrong meds or by omitting the correct ones. Number 2 if it is glaucoma treatment is multifaceted depending on severity. Even if funds are tight you need to find a way to get him to a vet for a proper examination. I hope you manage and in the mean time you could use lubricating eye gel to make the eyes slightly more comfortable.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Monty's eye looks very concerning for possible glaucoma, uveitis (eye inflammation), or endothelial disease. I would strongly recommend getting him seen by the vet as soon as possible, as there is a risk of perforation of the eye if this is due to glaucoma. The vet can check the pressures inside the eye, and prescribe medications to help reduce pressure or inflammation. In the meantime, ensure that Monty does not scratch or rub his eye as it is very sensitive and may be prone to being perforated. An e-collar (cone) may help with this purpose. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Finn! When it comes to eyes it is best to have the pet seen as soon as possible. I do not recommend starting any medications without an exam first. The only thin I recommend you do is to out an E-collar on to prevent Finn from rubbing his eye and causing further harm. You can warm compress the eye twice daily. Be sure you can tolerate the temperature first before putting it on his eye. I hope this helps and I wish Finn the very best!

I would consider looking into CareCredit and apply for a line of credit you can use for veterinary care. You can go to their website and apply online.
