What should I do if my dog has a small foreign object in its eye?

Hello. So sorry that Frodo is having this issue. You can certainly try to rinse the eye with saline solution. You can buy it at any chemist. If the "fluff" does not come off then you should take him in to your vet for an exam. You don't want to mess around too much with an eye at home because you can really injure the eye if you do not know what you are doing. I recommend flushing the eye with sterile saline eye wash or cooled boiled water, occasionally objects or stray hairs can become trapped on the surface of the eye causing such patterns. If it does rinse off then yes, you should see a vet straight away as french bulldogs are prone to painful corneal ulcers which can result in significant pain, discomfort and scarring if left untreated

I would take some sterile saline and flush Riley's eye out. Move the eyelids around and see if you can dislodge and wipe out whatever that is. If worms are present, they will be found WITHIN the eye, not on the outside. So you will not be able to dislodge them. If you cannot dislodge the object, then take him into the veterinarians. You can;t use too much saline and use something soft like a cotton ball to gently wipe the corners of the eye. Hopefully its just hair surrounded by mucus. The protrusion of the third eyelid is common when the eye is in pain. I'm a bit worried that the saltwater may have caused this if the salt content was too high. Saline is a salt water solution, but is balanced in a certain way. I only recommend flushing the eye with saline (can find at the pharmacy or supermarket in the eye care section). His eye should return to normal within 24 hours if it was not badly damaged by the soap or salt water. If his eye still looks abnormal after two days, then it would be best to have a vet examine him. Poor Travis! I would try to flush out his eye with some lukewarm water. If that doesn't help or he still looks droopy afterwards, I would take him into a vet right away. The sand could scratch his cornea, leading to infection and potentially an ulcer, and the sand will need to be removed and his eye treated.

Cleanse the wound with warm water or saline solution. You can either flush the wound (being careful to avoid the eye) or wipe the cut with a moistened gauze pad. Pat dry. Apply a thin film of a triple antibiotic ointment (such as Neosporin) twice daily. Monitor the wound for swelling, redness, or discharge. If you notice these signs, then you will need to have the wound looked at by your veterinarian. Most importantly, make sure your dog's rabies vaccination is up-to-date. If you are unsure or close to the due date, contact your veterinarian. Place an e-collar (cone) on him or her to prevent pawing, rubbing or scratching.
